1 The Way Forward – ITS Integrator
Presenter: Frans Pelser Date: 11 March 2014

2 Adapt IT (ITS Integrator)
positioned for success…

3 ITS Integrator – The Modern Look

4 Our objectives improve the usability of the system
future proof your investment in ITS Integrator improve the scalability of the iEnabler products improve and/or enable the use of web-, cloud- and mobile devices keep on continuously improving and enriching functionality based on feedback from clients, advice from industry experts and own research.

5 The strategy to meet our objectives
Implement new technology while introducing some functional improvements Focus implementation on system areas used most intensively Continue partnering with clients to drive system functionality through Consideration of development requests (ITS Integrator User Group and Other) Continuously reassess the relevance of system modules (from user group- and other feedback) Develop adaptors / interfaces to systems that provide functionality outside the core ITS Integrator scope

6 The new technology that is introduced
Committed to a Three Tier Architecture with Database Tier: Oracle (Standard Edition) Stays as it currently is Middle Tier: Java EE with Java Server Faces Oracle Weblogic Server to replace Oracle Internet Application Server Adopt the “Application Development Framework (ADF)” as Java Framework and use jDeveloper as Integrated Development Environment. ADF Taskflows will eventually replace the current Forms and iEnabler programs. Client Tier: Web Browser in a PC or Mobile Device Over time, the Java runtime (jInitiator) will not be required anymore.

7 Benefits that the introduction of the ADF technology should realize for our clients
The use of a lightweight, low maintenance client tier (Web Browser) Closer alignment of the look- and feel of the ITS Integrator Back-Office and iEnabler Systems to Industry Standards Improved developer productivity that should translate to higher volumes of new functionality (User Group requests) being taken to market earlier Software Developer skills should be available long into the future Possible savings on the licensing cost of infrastructure over the longer term (Application Server Licensing) The use of supported, state-of-the-art technology

8 In practice, how will it be done
ADF Taskflows will replace Forms Programs and PL*SQL - iEnabler packages Integrator 4 will contain a mix of ADF Taskflows, Forms Programs and iEnabler Packages Note that the Look-and-Feel of the ADF Task Flows will differ from the Forms programs and the iEnabler Packages Oracle Weblogic Suite allows for running Oracle Forms, Oracle Reports and ADF Taskflows in the same environment Integration between ADF Taskflows and the existing ITS Integrator Technologies to be fine tuned. The cost will be embedded in your support fees The full migration from Oracle Forms to ADF Taskflows will be done over a number of releases Be assured of the security of your investment in ITS Integrator

9 Development Roadmap The roadmap is classified in 4 categories
Short Term Integrator 3 is available Some client funded standard development on the Integrator 3 Platform in process ITS Integrator 4 ITS Integrator 4 or directly thereafter (First priority for Integrator 5), refer later slide Medium- and Long Term (ITS Integrator 5 and later releases)

10 Development Roadmap Short Term (Client funded standard development on Integrator 3 that is currently in process) Financial System Supplier Biographical – BB-BEE, Involved persons, Required Documentation, Validations (Procurement Management) Debt Collection Interface (Student Debtors) Simplify once-off electronic funds transfers to parties without a profile in the system (Counter) Multiple Fin Cycles open at the same time HR/Payroll Self Service Functionality to handle Recruitment (On line applications) Self Service Functionality to handle Overtime Work Agreements and Claims Student Additional Payment Methods in the iEnabler (e.g. Vouchers)

11 Development Roadmap Next Release (Integrator 4)
User Interface improvements (Redevelopment in ADF plus some new functionality) iEnablers Student Lecturer Finance Back-Office (Focus on functionality used most frequently) Student System (Academic Structure and other screens) Financial System (Transaction Processing- and Transaction Query Screens) HR/Payroll (Appointments Process and Payroll Inputs)

12 Development Roadmap Next Release (Integrator 4) Improved functionality
All systems Various other enhancements based on user group feedback Implementation of Workflow in various areas Finance Improved way to handle VAT/GST Reproduce an existing Bank Reconciliation Lecturer iEnabler Electronic Process for the Approval of Marks Upload Marks from Spreadsheets

13 First priority for ITS Integrator 5 May be in Integrator 4, depending on either funding or a later release date Further roll-out of ADF / (User Interface improvements) Improved Functionality Improved handling of multiple companies Improved handling of a multi level organisation structure Improved reporting (Financial Systems) Improvements to the Student Application- and Registration Process Interface between Financial System and research system (infoEd) Various improvements based on user feedback and other sources Student Debtors, Counter/Cashbook, Asset Survey, Personnel HEMIS Timesheets, Further roll-out of Text Customization in the Student iEnablers, Upload of Marks from Spreadsheets

14 Medium to Long Term Complete/Continue the implementation of ADF / (User Interface improvements) Improved Functionality Handle procurement tenders Improved handling of tuition and other fee increases Automation of HR/Payroll processes Expand mobile functionality to play an active role in processes (e.g. application / registration) Various improvements based on user feedback and other sources New Interfaces/Adapters between Integrator Systems and external systems outside the scope of Integrator

15 Lastly Adapt IT thank the ITS Integrator User Group for your valuable inputs through the years into the product and is looking forward to partnering with you and your institutions to continue improving the ITS Integrator System
