Making model houses - creating our own circuits to light up the house! Complete circuits – adding and taking away components. Designing our own boats - floating and sinking! F1 engineers – testing cars on different surfaces to see which conditions create the fastest speed! Forces – Making parachutes from various materials. NUMERACY Counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s – relating to times tables. Cedar’s marvellous medicine shop – coin recognition, estimating and giving change! Capacity experiments using George’s marvellous medicine. Weighing ingredients for the marvellous medicine. Measuring and comparing the size of James’ giant peaches. Time – reading times of the clocks, creating times and ordering them. Adding and subtracting – written method. Finding a half and a quarter using the recipe for marvellous medicine. Number sequences detective work – finding the missing numbers and filling in the gaps! Shape hunt! – finding 2D and 3D shapes in our local environment. French Ooh la la! Stories from the Bible (Feeding of the 5000, The Good Samaritan and Noah’s Arc) -listen and illustrate! Comparing special family times – Christianity, Judaism and Hinduism. Why my family is special to me – photos of special family moments/celebrations. The Holy family of Mary, Joseph and Jesus. Religious festivals (Christmas, Diwali, Ramadan and Passover) - comparing how we celebrate in different religions. The build up to Christmas. The nativity story – listen, recall and act out Music Singing a variety of new songs on a daily basis! On board the Music express! Long and short sounds using different percussion instruments. Pulse and rhythm – creating our own rhythms and performing them to class. Copy and repeat a rhythm. Mood paintings in response to music. Sound stories using percussion! Christmas songs and concert pieces. LITERACY Instructional writing-recipes for our marvellous medicines! Persuasive writing – creating an advert for our own marvellous medicines! Writing questions to ask Gran and George about the story. Character profiles for Gran and George – describing their appearances and personalities. Describing and comparing settings using adjectives and WOW words! Short story writing - how do I plan and write a good short story? Longer story writing – writing adventure stories using a plan to create a story that is at least one A4 page long that is interesting and uses speech. Report writing using paragraphs and headings and sub headings – writing a report of what it was like inside the giant peach. CHIPS challenge in writing (Capitals/full stops/Handwriting/Interesting/Punctuation/Spelling) Hot seating / role play characters from George’s marvellous medicine and James and the Giant Peach. Reading comprehension short exercises. ART AND DESIGN Designing own house for James to live in! Designing an animal that’s been affected by their marvellous medicine! Patchwork peach – sewing and repeating patterns. 3D objects – creating own packaging for marvellous medicine using a range of materials. Creating character puppets for the stories – finger puppets and full size. Building 3D models of the characters. PHSE Relationships – families and friendships. Bring in family photos – old and new. Role models – who do we look up to both inside and outside of school and why? Who is important to us? Why are they special to us? It’s good to me be! What do we like about ourselves? What makes us special? Writing recipes for a perfect pupil! What makes a good friend? 1
