Hello! In the sixth form in our English classes we studied Queen Elizabeth II and her big family. We liked the Queen very much and we decided to get more information about her and her life. Now we are going to tell you about the Queen.

Elizabeth II was born on the 21st of April 1926
Elizabeth II was born on the 21st of April She was named Elizabeth-Mary- Alexandra after her mother, grandmother and great- grandmother from her father’s side. The child was so charming that she became the favourite not only among the Royal family (including King George who had a dislike for children) but also among the British Public.

Her grandmother Queen Maria (who was one of the first who saw the new-born child) wrote in her diary that the baby was very pretty and well-built. Her pet name was Lilibet.

In spite of the fact that in the list of successors of the throne the daughter of the Dukes of York, i.e. Elizabeth’s parents, was only the third the attention of the public to her increased quickly. The portraits of the blue-eyed girl with blond ringlets soon appeared on the covers of the most prestigious magazines. Her loving nurses took care not only of the health of the princess but they also taught her to be accurate and orderly. Her relatives noticed that the girl had many of her father’s qualities including common sense and strength of character. Like him she understood people. She loved hunting, dancing and riding horses.

When the princess was three she had a governess
When the princess was three she had a governess. It was the 22-year-old Scotswoman Marion Crawford who got her education at the Edinburgh University. The young tutor taught her to be disciplined, diligent and punctual. The princess was educated at home. She was taught to read and write by her parents. She studied Latin, Geography, Economics, Music. She knew several foreign languages. She spoke French well.

Elizabeth and Philip got acquainted at their relative’s wedding in Elizabeth was only 13 years old then. But it was love at first sight.

On the 6th of February 1952 King George VI died of the illness of lungs. And on the same day Elizabeth came to the throne. The coronation took place on the 2nd of June in 1953.

Elizabeth and Philip have four children – elder son Charles, who is the successor of a throne, the Prince of Wales, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, Prince Edward. They have eight grandchildren now. You can look at their family tree and some pictures of their family.

Elizabeth II is one of the most secret celebrities in the world because she has never given an interview in her life. But nevertheless journalists managed to know almost everything about her life including the most interesting and unexpected facts.

Some curious facts of the Queen’s life

* Queen Elizabeth II is the second monarch in the world (after King Bhumibol in Thailand) who ruled for the longest period in the world history. King Bhumibol came to the throne in 1946.

* Queen Elizabeth II is famous for her long life among the British monarchs. She’s 85 now. The previous record was set up by King George and Queen Victoria who died at the age of 82.

* Queen Elizabeth likes to travel a lot. She and her husband were the first in the Royal family who made a voyage around the world. It took them six months. They visited 16 states of the British Empire. Elizabeth is not going to stop. Last year she paid 48 foreign visits.

Elizabeth is very pious. She never misses Sunday services wherever she is.
