5 WHY IS YOUR DISTRICT CHANGING?
Were you involved in the initial selection process? How long had you been using your current standards? What does your new process look like? More or less standard Change Grade Scales? What document/author is guiding your district Special Needs, GIFTED, ELL Students Start Date- Next year? Import now or after EOY? Hybrid Anyone? Grade Level Changes?

6 CURRICULUM/ADMIN & TECHNICAL

8 Before the “selection process”
Review curriculum alignment across all subjects and grade levels – which subjects haven’t been reviewed, recent purchases, expected new purchases. Gather your resources –International Baccalaureate, Common Core, State Standards, Existing Standards, District Alike Standards**. Create new forms of assessments - the better assessments align with your curriculum and allow many of your standards to associated to them and/or assignments. How much time does this take?? – My recommendation is 24 to 6 months! Skipping these steps will result in at best - continuous revisions and most often FAILURE!

9 Selecting Your NEW Standards
Grade level teacher Team* - Pilot concerns Set guidelines - # of standards per content area per grade level including Life Skills (or) Different Student Groups _ GIFTED, Special Education, ELL Benchmark Dates – 1st Draft per content area Compare Standards # by Content by Grade Level SET/KEEP* FINAL Date– No more changes after… PreK K 1 2 3 4 5 ELA 15 12 18 10 17 23 32 MA 6 13 14 SCI

10 Standard Resources

11 The issues with “AS IS” standards
8.EE.6: Use similar triangles to explain why the slope m is the same between any two distinct points on a non-vertical line in the coordinate plane; derive the equation y = mx for a line through the origin and the equation y = mx + b for a line What does this mean? To Teachers/ To Parents Can it be shortened so it doesn’t get truncated? Some IB/CC/State Standards are actually multiple concepts which are expected to assessed with one grade Why not during the “selection process” the teacher committees also shorten them and make them understandable to their audience!

12 O U S Wisconsin Parent... Now that I know what standard my daughter is struggling with, I hope I can understand what the standard means?

13 Change requires continual checking of your stakeholders temperature
Change requires continual checking of your stakeholders temperature. HAS THIS HAPPENED YET? Parents Teachers Tech Team

14 Read anything by Ken O’Connor aka The Grade Doctor
Far more important than the keystroke of a grade is how the district has trained teachers in the proper techniques in determining that grade. What Ken and others are saying about student achievement is mission critical. The gradebook (PTG and PTP) has been designed with these principles.

15 your performance indicators? Everyone on the Same Page
Are you changing your performance indicators? Everyone on the Same Page

16 Conversion and Grade Scales
PS8 conversion scales could be left blank on the import standards file. No dropdowns in Score Inspector PS9 required a conversion scales. DO NOT GRADE with no values - no dropdowns in Score Inspector PS10 Conversion Scales are no longer with PTP, Grade Scales are created with the same name as your conversion scales. Migration does this automatically. Grade Scales MUST have one value with 0% define or you will get an error but check all Grade Scales* PTG and/or PTP PLEASE NOTE: IF STANDARDS ARE GOING TO BE TIED TO ASSIGNMENTS AND ASSIGNMENT SCORES ARE GOING TO POPULATE STANDARD SCORES – USE NUMERIC GRADE SCALES

17 Shift from Alpha Numeric to Numeric Grade Scales
NUMERIC SCALE – DOES REAL MATH with NUMERIC VALUES ALPHA SCALE – USE GRADE VALUES FOR IT’S MATH 4,4,3 = ? ALPHA 100,100/89 = 289/3 =96 or a 4 NUMERIC 4,4,3 = 11/3 =3.6 or a 3+

18 NUMERIC SCALES – RANGE & INCLUDE

19 AUTO GENERATE THE TABLE

20 THE UNIQUE IDENTIFIERS!!
WHAT DO YOU MEAN IF I CHANGE STANDARDS DURING THE YEAR I CAN’T RE-USE THE UNIQUE IDENTIFIERS!! DO I HAVE TO CHANGE ALL MY REPORT CARDS?

21 Standards have to be managed
YEAR TO YEAR/EOY or... MUST SET UP AT THE DISTRICT LEVEL YOU MUST THEN BE IN CREATE STANDARDS LIST for YearID 27 √ 24,012 standards were created for Create Next Year’s List of Standards Prior to End-of-Year COPIES ALL STANDARDS – ACTIVE AND INACTIVE FROM ALL PREVIOUS YEARS EOY PROCESS WILL NOT COPY OVER STANDARDS IF YOU DO THIS IF YOU CHANGE STANDARDS AFTER CREATING….????

22 What to do and WHEN? OLD STANDARDS NEED TO BE RETIRED- WHEN:
After EOY – Remove Course Association/Allow to 0/IsActive to 0 Identifiers don’t have to be unique between years, within the same year – IDENTIFIERS MUST BE UNIQUE! CAN I CREATE NEW STANDARDS FOR NEXT YEAR AND IMPORT THEM BEFORE THE END OF YEAR: YES In current year, different identifiers and NO COURSE ASSOCIATION If you set up the following year at the district level, you can import them with the same identifiers and a different yearid

23 Consider a user friendly schema for standard identifiers
Removing a,b,c will save time- import template and report cards

24 Character Count for Standards

25 # of Reporting Periods dictates the # of characters (BobC’s recommendations - on printed report cards) 75 70 65

26 Standard Grade Options

27 Thoughts on Comments Holistic Narrative for HR Teacher
Content Comments (All or Core?) Comment Bank – Have you review that list?? How do you set the correct length? When you create an entry box on your report card use the same sized box for all grades all subjects. Content specific comments are NORMALLY shorter than a holistic narrative

28 Select - √ Standards DISTRICT LIST

29 FILTERS and EDIT ALL FILTERED RECORDS
Primary Courses is not list as it’s a stand alone above List Parent is not a choice – WHY????

30 DDA LIKE CHANGE OPTIONS –1@TIME

31 Standard Changes & Static Report Card Implications
PS8 to PS8 or PS9 – If new identifiers are used, you many need to tweak the report card. Do you teachers want them to printed in a particular order? PS9 to PS9 – Within the same year, wordsmithing a standard may result in NO CHANGES. For the SOY, if the # of identifiers didn’t change – may result in NO CHANGES (Create Standards List) PS10/PTP – ReportWorks doesn’t pull grades entered via PTP!! PS10/PTG still does!

32 New Option Available Now? Works in 9 & 10 too!
Standards Grades Search Tool Customizations

33 Within seconds, all the students who were under performing in that grade and the selected term appear on the scree and can be exported!

34 Administrators want %... now they can!

35 Each standard in given grade level and term display as a row
Each standard in given grade level and term display as a row. Click on the row and you get…. ?

36 PTP MIGRATION DASHBOARD by Adam Larsen
If you run this from the district you will get display all your divisions or campus COOL PLUG-INS

38 Mark Anderson must understand us!!
