2. What is a command?
Commands are strong, direct expressions in which one person tries to make another person or persons take a specific action.

3. Tú commands (Affirmative)
Go to the tú form
Drop the -s
Ejemplo:
Comes → Come.

4. Irregular affirmatives
venir → ven
poner → pon
salir → sal
decir → di
ir → ve
hacer → haz (watch pronunciation)
tener → ten
ser → sé

Haz
Ten Ve
Pon Sé

6. Tú commands (Negative)
Go to the yo form
Drop the –o
Add the opposite vowel and –s
-ar verbs → -e
-er/-ir verbs → -a
Add a no
Ejemplo:
Hago → Hag- → Hagas → No hagas

7. Irregular negatives dar → no des estar → no estés ir → no vayas
saber → no sepas
ser → no seas

8. Uses of tú commands Remember, to use tú commands when you command:
someone you know
a family member
friend
close acquaintance

9. Ud. commands Go to the yo form Drop the –o Add the opposite vowel
Add a no if the command is negative
Ejemplo:
Duermo → Duerm- → Duerma.

10. Irregulars dar → no dé estar → no esté ir → no vaya saber → no sepa
ser → no sea

11. Spelling changes
-car → -que
-gar → -gue
-zar → -ce
-guir → -ga

12. Uses of Ud. commands Remember, to use Ud., you would be commanding:
someone you don’t know
an elder
someone respectfully

13. Uds. commands Go to the yo form Drop the –o
Add the opposite vowel and –n
Add a no if the command is negative
Ejemplo:
Bato → Bat- → Batan.

14. Uds. commands Use the same irregulars as the Ud. commands.
To soften a command, use Ud. or Uds.
Also, include por favor.

15. Object pronouns
Reflexive and object pronouns (indirect and direct) are attached at the end of affirmative commands (adding an accent on the third-from-the-last syllable) but precede negative commands (yet placed after no).

16. Añade + lo → Añádelo.
No pongas + lo → No lo pongas.

17. Nosotros commands Go to the yo form Drop the –o
Add the opposite vowel and -mos
Add a no if the command is negative
Ejemplo:
Sirvo → Sirv- → Sirvamos

18. Nosotros commands This equates to saying “Let’s …”
Most commonly, in Spanish, to say this you will use vamos a + infinitive.
For negative commands use no vayamos a…

19. When the reflexive pronoun nos is attached to a nosotros command, drop the final –s of the verb ending. Then, attach the nos and add an accent mark to the third-from-the-last syllable.
Ejemplo: Vamos + nos → ¡Vámonos!

20. Nosotros commands -IR stem-changing verbs will change:
o→ u
e→ i
