3. The International Forum
An international three day meeting focussing on healthcare improvement and safety.
A very varied and international delegate list (from chief executives and government officials to health care managers and clinicians)
17th annual Forum which captures the current international priorities in quality improvement and patient safety.
3,000 attendees from over 80 countries.
Speakers receive free entrance to the conference. Delegates and poster presenters are required to pay full cost ( approx £481 - £1524)
The next International Forum on Quality and Safety is taking place on April 2013 at the ExCel Centre, London. It was last held in the UK in 2005, and prior to that in 1996.

6. Timescale and submission process
Two submission streams:
Speakers proposals: submit by 5 pm on 31st July.
Poster proposals: will open in August for three months.
Send to for feedback before submitting.

7. Selection Process Up to 600 abstracts for poster presentations
50 abstracts selected for a short oral presentation
All abstracts will be peer reviewed by 3 reviewers
Criteria:
Work must relate to quality improvement or patient safety
Results of the project must clearly illustrate that an improvement in healthcare was achieved
Work must have been completed within the last 2 years

Dark Ages to Renaissance – Rebirth of Stroke Care in
Session description
How do you move a whole country from failing to rapidly improving stroke services? We used a proven collaborative approach to move all acute stroke units in Wales forward together ensuring more consistent patient care. In part one, we will share the key factors that led to such a remarkable success and show some of the results. In part two, you will have the opportunity to apply the learning to a service of your choosing.
Learning outcomes – after this session, participants will be able to:
Recognise the essential elements to move a service from dark ages to renaissance
Design a data tool which “speaks” across a service
Apply a similar approach to a service of their choosing

We have included the following evidence to support our submission in a separate compressed file Stroke Evidence.zip. They comprise:
1 Stroke Bundles results.ppt – run charts showing how compliance with 4 care bundles has improved across all stroke units in Wales up to 2011
2 Excel data tool.xls - The actual Excel data collection and analysis tool (with sample data). Each stroke team had their own tool that they used to track their own performance and present results to their Executive management team.
3 Acute Stroke How to Guide.pdf – the document that contains the evidence for the care bundles we used plus guidance to teams on the improvement methodology
4 Learning Session agendas.doc – the agenda from the 3 learning sessions to show the topics we covered for teams
5 NLIAH stroke report.pdf - An internal report documenting the progress the stroke services in Wales have made in the first year and provides data on starting point and how we compared nationally with the RCP Stroke Sentinel audit 2007)
6 Brief Overview RCP Clinical Audit.doc – a summary of the UK annual stroke audits showing how Wales has improved compared to the rest of the UK between 2008 and 2010
7 TheQualityImprovementGuide.pdf – a more recent publication that outlines the improvement method applied to acute stroke services and all other programmes within 1000 Lives Plus
