NEED Various modes of delivery of e-enabled services have been envisaged. However,mobile telephony (with or without internet) is the most potent and omnipresent tool of agricultural extension. SMS Portal was inaugurated by the Hon’ble President of India on July 16,2013

OBJECTIVE Enabling state and central government organisations in allied and agriculture sectors to provide data and advisories to farmers through SMS in their language with reference to their location and preference of agricultural practices.

FEATURES Has unique features like database to sift farmers down to Block level & to select specific agricultural commodities/animal/bird/fish. Integration with farmer centric services like Common Service Centres, Kisan Call Centures and more is another feature of this SMS portal. Semi-literate and illiterate farmers are also targeted to be reached by voice messages.

HOW TO REGISTER

BENEFITS One stop shop for farmers where a farmer can get information on a range of topics including seeds, fertilizer, pesticides, credit, good practices, dealer network, and availability of inputs, beneficiary list and Agromet advisories.

CONCLUSION Enables the farming community to get specific agriculture information on a real time basis. Can go a long way in extending agriculture e-governance in rural Indian landscape.
