Cell Cycle and Nuclear Divsion
Mitosis
2
Structures and Sequences
During Mitosis a number of changes take place These changes follow a logical sequence of events that allow the division of DNA into two equal, genetically identical portions There are a number of cell structures that bear watching
3
Important structural components
The DNA must replicate itself The chromosomes must condense and re-extend The nuclear envelope must disintegrate and reform The centriole must divide and migrate (in animal cells, plants lack centrioles) The spindle must form and disintegrate The cytoplasm must divide
4
Chromosomes must: Replicate Condense Attach to the spindle
S phase of interphase Condense Prophase Attach to the spindle Prometaphase Align in the middle of the spindle Metaphase Divide and migrate to opposite poles Anaphase Extend Telophase
