Math Vocabulary Review
division – to find out how many times one # goes into another dividend – # being divided divisor - # used to divide by quotient – the answer you get from a division problem remainder – any # left over in a division problem
3
Basic Division Review Using your chart…
1) Use your chart, starting with the divisor. 2) Follow the row to the answer closest (BUT not over) the dividend #. 3) Follow that column up to find quotient. 4) Multiply the quotient with the divisor. 5) Write answer UNDER the original dividend and subtract. 6) Write remainder as R:?

Dividing Larger Numbers
Steps: 1) Rewrite the problem 2) Check for division of leading digit(s), by divisor 3) Find which number can be the starting dividend 4) Use the chart to find quotient and write above last digit of chosen dividend 5) Multiply with the divisor. 6) Write answer UNDER the original dividend and subtract. 7) Bring down remainder to subtraction answer NEW DIVIDEND 8) Repeat steps 4 thru 7, until you have 0 or remainder 137 ÷ 4 4√137
