At home you can; Reading Identifying similes and metaphors while reading poetry to build comprehension Using a strategy called close reading to determine what the poet is communicating to the reader Next Week Identifying the theme of a poem Comparing and contrasting two poems with the same theme Math Learning how to find the product of a fraction and a whole number with and without a model Using an area model the show the product of two fractions Comparing the size of the product to the size of one factor when multiplying fractions Learning how to multiply fractions without a model Writing Exploring features of biographies, focusing on how biographers use facts and details to inform readers and bring their subjects to life. Social Studies Working in collaborative groups on Revolutionary War themed projects Reading and Writing: -Have a conversation with your child about a poetry book they have listened to in class or are currently reading. Ask them to identify one simile or metaphor they discovered while reading. Have them explain its meaning and purpose. -Have your child tell you why authors write biographies. Math: -Study multiplication and division facts. -Have your child show you how to draw a model to illustrate fraction multiplication Social Studies: -Ask your child to share with you what project they are working on in class.
