Learning Targets LT 1: I can define physics and its relationship to natural science. LT 2: I can explain the differences between a hypothesis, theory, law, model and fact. LT 3: I can explain the difference between science and technology, and how each helps the other develop. LT 4: I can explain SI base and derived units and why they are useful in science.

Part 2: Make two columns. Label one Science
and the other Technology. Read page 6 and page 13 in the textbook. Define each term Make a list of words that best describe each Write a brief statement reflecting the purpose of each
5
Provide a brief definition of each term
Fact Theory Law Model Hypothesis
6
Fact: something that is observed to be real
Scientific Theory: A explanation of an occurrence or phenomenon in the natural world. Supported by evidence Accepted as valid Accurate at predicting and testing Scientific Laws: Factual observations expressing a fundamental principle of science.
7
Model: A representation of an object or event that can be studied so that the real object or event can be understood. Hypothesis: a possible answer to a question; an educated guess that has not been tested.

Measurements Use the mass balances and meter sticks to take a series of measurements. Use your composition book to collect data.
