1 What are ‘rights’? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VO7oS8PqkJY
Human rights are the basic rights and freedoms that belong to every person in the world, from birth until death. They apply regardless of where you are from, what you believe or how you choose to live your life. They can never be taken away, although they can sometimes be restricted – for example if a person breaks the law, or in the interests of national security. These basic rights are based on values like dignity, fairness, equality, respect and independence. But human rights are not just abstract concepts – they are defined and protected by law. In Britain our human rights are protected by the Human Rights Act 1998.

2 UN Charter of Children’s Rights What is it?
In 1989, governments across the world promised that every child would have the same rights when they adopted the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The convention tells everyone what they must do to make sure that every child can grow, learn, be safe, can be listened to and treated fairly. There are 43 articles relating to children’s rights in the charter and this PowerPoint will explain the main ones.

3 GLOBAL SPORTS FAMILY In the global sports family with Darren, Mark, Mandie and Michael, we decided we would look at Article No. 23 of the UN Charter of Children’s Rights. We felt this was an important article considering the nature of the students in our school and the challenges we often face in our lives particularly with having fair and equal access to sports and physical activities. We decided to look at disability sports and sample some of them this morning. Both groups had the opportunity to participate in a number of disability activities then work to turn them into animations.
