Pilot Project on SIGMET Coordination in Southeast Asia
A RA V pilot project involving Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia to exercise a coordinated approach in the issuance of SIGMET for weather phenomena straddling FIR boundaries JMA and HKO participated in the project by providing tools to facilitate establishment of a consensus on the parameters of the phenomenon, including its extent, intensity, growth/decay rate, direction and rate of movement, prior to the issuance of SIGMETs across the boundaries
5
Pilot project on SIGMET coordination actions of MWOs between the Russian Federation & the Republic of Belarus aims at the determination of coordination mechanisms and actions between adjacent MWOs to achieve seamless SIGMETs production across the state and FIR borders regarding turbulence, icing and thunderstorm phenomena First phase of the Project (January – March, 2016) involved the Russian Federation (MWOs St. Petersburg, Murmansk, Arkhangelsk, Vologda, Moscow) and Republic of Belarus (MWO Minsk) A survey for all MWOs of RF and PT/EAST countries was carried out in August, 2016, concerning the participation in the project and the unified approach to SIGMET issue. Aviation Nowcasting Capacity Building Workshop
Held back-to-back with the WMO WWRP 4th International Symposium on Nowcasting and Very-short-range Forecast 2016 (WSN16) Provide nowcasting and mesoscale technology training to interested Members in response to the need of the advancement of aviation meteorological services in the 0-6 hour nowcasting time frame 22 participants attended the workshop (more than 160 participants for WSN16)
7
Numerous sub-regional activities, including transition of Quality Management Systems to the new ISO9001:2015 standard, enhancements to meet the WMO competency requirements, are being conducted.
8
Looking forward The new IWXXM (ICAO Meteorological Information Exchange Model) is proposed to become a standard in 2018 and applicable in 2020 Promulgation of the impact and what should be done is required Capacity building is urgently required for Members as most NMHSs are also AMSP Hong Kong, China is planning for a workshop in mid-2017 Automatic aircraft reports are important to further enhance our products and services Need to work with CBS ET-ABO to established the A-RIP of RA II and facilitate Members to make use of the observation reports to enhance their products and services
9
Conclusion The EG-AeM meeting in 2014 successfully aligned the priorities, strategies and technical knowhow of participants; a number of regional and sub-regional activities were conducted since then The themes determined for OP , however, seem to be a mismatch with those identified by EG-AeM and the priorities determined by CAeM Some changes should be considered
