1
Using Ratio Reasoning to Convert Measurement Units
2
How many yards? How many feet? How many inches?
3
To do so, you would use a conversion rate.
In problems which involve measurements (length, weight, volume, time, etc.), it is often necessary to convert from one measurement unit to another. To do so, you would use a conversion rate.
4
List some conversion rates that you know. Write them in ratio format.
For example: 60 min 1 hour
5
Did you remember these? 60 sec 60 min 1 day 7 days
1 min 1 hr hrs 1 week 1 mile cm 1 gallon 5280 ft 1 meter 4 quarts
6
Conversion Table Provides equivalents for changing from one unit of measure to another Typically includes measurements of length (standard and metric), volume, time, and weight.
7
Tina has 5 quarts of milk. How many cups of milk does she have?
Example #1: Tina has 5 quarts of milk. How many cups of milk does she have?
8
Example #2: How many minutes are in 2 days?
9
Example #3: A poster board is 108 inches wide. If it is cut in half, how many feet wide will each piece be?
