1967 – State institutions, across the country housed 200,000 people with disabilities
1970 – One in five children with disabilities were educated in public school
1975 – Education for All Handicapped Children (EAHC)
1990 – Individual’s with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
1990 – American’s with Disabilities Act (ADA)
Starter with a movement for children who were deaf and blind
Laws existed that exclude children who were blind, deaf, cognitively impaired and physically impaired
EAHC- P.L provided access to public school for the first time by federal law
EAHC morphed into the IDEA -

5. Individuals with Disabilities Education Act
More children/youth with disabilities are:
Receiving high quality interventions
Attending neighborhood schools
Graduating high school
Enrolled in post secondary programs
IDEA funded centers and projects have supported educators in:
Learning to how to assess students with disabilities
Accommodating students with disabilities
Providing technical assistance to schools and students
Educating parents on their rights and the rights of their students
