Initial Specification
Must Should Could You must come up with initial specification points which are MUST, SHOULD and COULD. There should be 10 bullet points per heading and each should be justified. Example 1. The stool must be able to be knocked down and packaging in a box. Aim of the task Example 1. The stool should be adjustable in height This will make it suitable for a large range of customers Example 1. The stool could be made from recycled materials This will make the stool more sustainable.

Factor Analysis and Research Plan
Social, moral and environmental issues – What social and moral issues will need to be considers? Will the product consider the 6R’s. Dimensions, anthropometrics and ergonomics
You should use photo to show human interaction with existing products similar to the one you will design. You can annotation these photos to highlight positive and negatives as well as key dimensions which need to be considered. You should explain how a human will need to interact with the product you will be designing. What will you need to consider to make the product comfortable and easy for a person to use. Dimension Anthropometric Data You need to gather specific anthro data about your target market and the dimensions which are relevant to how it can be used. You will then need to use this data to determine suitable overall dimensions for your product to fit into What to take forward?

What you need to find out? This will come from your research plan. What were the results for what you found? Specification points How I will test this Purpose All sentences must start with “my product must/should”. Do not be over specific. Only write general things. Concepts These should be quick basic 3D sketches. You should come up with different ideas Each sketch should be different, experimental, realistic, solve the problem and function you have been researching in your project Annotations are not needs but you may want one or two to highlight how the product works.

Consider your product being made from materials other than those you have chosen. What alternative materials could you have chosen? How would this have affected the methods of construction and possible mass production strategies? What compromises did you have to make when selecting the materials for your product?

Manufacturing the base of the lamp MDF Metal Rule, fret saw, belt sander, glass paper, hole saw, pillar The fret saw, pillar drill and belt sander are dangerous workshop machines. When using them I wore goggles and an apron and only used them after having proper training. I made sure I had no loose items that could get caught in the belt sander or pillar drill. The hole that has been cut must be within +/- 1mm of the desired diameter and will be checked with a calliper. The base must be checked for smooth finishing that will give no splinters. The hole cut had a 21mm diameter which is +1mm larger than the desired hole, therefore the hole is reasonable in quality. The base was perfectly smooth and has no sharp edges or possible splinters.

Branding and Market You need to consider how you will brand and market your product. Do you need to create a logo or slogan? Does it already fit into a brand? Who are you trying to sell to? What advertising will you use? Social media? TV? leaflets? Packaging You need to consider how your product will be packaged. Do you need to use eco friendly packaging? Do you need to use a brand/logo on the packaging? Do you need to include instructions on how to use/assembly your product? What will the packaged product look like? Sketch it.

Industrial and Commercial Suitability
Production type How will the design of the product need to change? How processes and machinery would be used to manufacture the product to this scale? One-off This should be a detailed explanation of any modifications you would need to make so that the product could be made to this scale. You many want to include sketches.
