Idea proposed to History TC in early 1999
May 1999 – presented to Institute Development Committee. Asked to refine presentation.
August 1999 – presented to IDC again, approved; Board of Directors approved funding for pilot program.
January 2000 – first meeting of committee; sites selected
November 2000 – first ceremonies
May 2002 – Tony Springer appointed as Historic Sites Liaison by AIAA President Kent Kresa

3. Nominations submitted by anyone, although AIAA members are preferred

Committee meets in January to choose up to 5 sites
Staff makes logistical arrangements, produces brochure, orders plaque, sends invitations, etc.
