Presentation on theme: "Circulatory System STRUCTURES Blood Heart Arteries Capillaries Veins"— Presentation transcript:

1 Circulatory System STRUCTURES Blood Heart Arteries Capillaries Veins FUNCTION Pumps blood to and from the heart to supply oxygen to the body. How does this system relate to others? Connected to almost all other systems. Works very closely with the respiratory system and the immune system.

2 How does this system relate to others?
Endocrine System FUNCTION Collection of glands that secrete hormones into the blood which regulate growth, development, and homeostasis. STRUCTURES Hypothalamus Pituitary gland Thyroid Adrenal glands Ovaries Testes How does this system relate to others? The endocrine system works closely with the reproductive system, the digestive system and the excretory system. Several hormones originate in the brain, part of the nervous system.

3 How does this system relate to others?
Immune System How does this system relate to others? The immune system works closely with the circulatory system and the integumentary system. FUNCTION Protects the body from pathogens. STRUCTURES Thymus Spleen Lymph nodes Lymph vessels White blood cells

4 How does this system relate to others?
Integumentary System FUNCTION Protects the body from infection and injury, regulates body temperature. STRUCTURES Hair Skin Nails Sweat glands Oil glands How does this system relate to others? The integumentary contains blood vessels (circulatory system) and nerves (nervous system) and works closely with the immune system (helping keep pathogens out) and the excretory system (excreting waste via sweat).

5 Skeletal System FUNCTION The hard structure that provides a frame for the body of an animal. STRUCTURES Bones Cartilages How does this system relate to others? Muscular system – bones and muscles work together for movement Circulatory system and immune system – all blood cells (red and white) are made in the bone marrow

6 How does this system relate to others?
Nervous System How does this system relate to others? The nervous system works with many other systems, but works most closely with the: Digestive system and Muscular system to coordinate movement FUNCTION The body's speedy, electrochemical communication system, consisting of all the nerve cells of the peripheral and central nervous systems. STRUCTURES Brain Nerves Spinal cord

7 Muscular System Works closely with the:
FUNCTION Creates movement, regulates body temperature and protects the body. STRUCTURES Muscles Tendons How does this system relate to others? Works closely with the: Skeletal system – Supports the muscle Circulatory – brings O2 to muscles and waste products such as lactic acid away Nervous – how muscles contract

8 How does this system relate to others?
Digestive System How does this system relate to others? Muscular – contains smooth muscle Nervous – gets signals that control the rate of digestion Circulatory – broken down food travels through blood vessels to cells Endocrine – hormones (ex. Insulin) control blood sugar levels FUNCTION Breaks down food and delivers the products to the blood for dispersal to the body cells. Gallbladder Pancreas Small intestine Large intestine (colon) Rectum STRUCTURES Oral cavity Esophagus Stomach Liver

9 How does this system relate to others?
Excretory System How does this system relate to others? Circulatory – waste products are carried from the cells to the kidney through blood vessels Endocrine – hormones are sent that control water levels and homeostasis Respiratory – expels toxic CO2 out of body FUNCTION Removes wastes from the body and helps to maintain water and electrolyte balance. Kidneys Ureters Bladder Urethra Lungs Skin Liver STRUCTURES

10 How does this system relate to others?
Reproductive System How does this system relate to others? FUNCTION Organ system which functions in creating offspring and producing sex hormones. The reproductive system works most closely with the endocrine system (hormones) Females: Ovaries Uterus Vagina STRUCTURES Males: Penis Testes

11 How does this system relate to others? Responsible for gas exchange.
Respiratory System How does this system relate to others? Circulatory – brings O2 to the cells and CO2 back to the lungs Excretory – part of the excretory system to get rid of toxic CO2 from the body FUNCTION Responsible for gas exchange.  Lungs Pharynx Larynx Bronchi Diaphragm Trachea STRUCTURES
