Wisdom and Obedience 1/22/2017
“For all of His declarations involve responsibility, just as all His commands implicate resource.” G. Campbell Morgan

Proverbs 4:7 The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight.

James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.

More Wisdom Obedience Leads To Disobedience Leads To More Deception

Deuteronomy 4:6 Keep them and do them, for that will be your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples, who, when they hear all these statutes, will say, ‘Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.’

1 Kings 4:29-30 And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding beyond measure, and breadth of mind like the sand on the seashore, so that Solomon's wisdom surpassed the wisdom of all the people of the east and all the wisdom of Egypt.

Deuteronomy 17:18-19 “And when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, he shall write for himself in a book a copy of this law, approved by the Levitical priests. And it shall be with him, and he shall read in it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the Lord his God by keeping all the words of this law and these statutes, and doing them,

Deuteronomy 17:16-17 Only he must not acquire many horses for himself or cause the people to return to Egypt in order to acquire many horses, since the Lord has said to you, ‘You shall never return that way again.’ And he shall not acquire many wives for himself, lest his heart turn away, nor shall he acquire for himself excessive silver and gold.

2 Chronicles 9:25 And Solomon had 4,000 stalls for horses and chariots, and 12,000 horsemen, whom he stationed in the chariot cities and with the king in Jerusalem.

1 Kings 11:3-4 He had 700 wives, who were princesses, and 300 concubines. And his wives turned away his heart. For when Solomon was old his wives turned away his heart after other gods, and his heart was not wholly true to the Lord his God, as was the heart of David his father.

1 Samuel 15:22 And Samuel said, “Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams.

Psalm 90:12 So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.

Service Is Always In Style
Matthew 10:42 – cup of water Matthew 6:4 – give in secret Matthew 6:6 – pray in secret Matthew 25: - Final Judgment poor, prison, sick, strangers, Matthew 20:26 – want to be great, become a servant James 1:27 – widows and orphans

Proverbs 2:6-7 For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding; He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk in integrity,

1 Corinthians 10:11 Now these things happened to them as an example, but they were written down for our instruction, on whom the end of the ages has come.

For Our Consideration If we ask God for wisdom, how do you think He will supply it? If we are in willful disobedience to God’s revealed will, do we think God will give us more or less wisdom? How does embracing the fact of a limited lifespan impact wisdom Why is service to others such a big deal in the Kingdom?

Prayer Focus Thank You Lord for giving us Your word to guide us
Thank You Lord that You love us and want us to mature Thank You Lord for another day to begin or continue
