3 Donations-Planned Giving
Bequests are on the rise $1.3 – 2.8 million a year The Foundation is here to help Full estate packet Thank you packet Already secured donations this year $175K for Ft. Belvoir $100K for Michigan As the Fisher House program continues to grow & becomes more well known donors looking to leave Fisher House Foundation, or an individual Fisher House in their will is going to be more prevalent. The Foundation is receiving between $1.3 - $2.8 million a year in bequest donations. The Foundation is happy to be your group's point of contact for bequest donations.  There are many different ways people look to setup their bequests, and the paper-work, reporting, tracking, and responses to the donors during their life, and their estate representatives after they pass can be extremely complicated.  The Foundation has a full estate information packet we send to donors when they request information.  A thank you packet for when people tell us they are leaving us in their wills. Already this year we have secured and finalized an estate of $175k for the Ft. Belvoir Fisher House, and a $100k stock transfer for the Michigan group.

4 Corporate Support The new wave of “360” support: Donate, Fundraise, Volunteer Donate: Designate to a specific program or capital project, sponsor our annual golf classic or Team Fisher House program, cause marketing, in kind donations & advertising Fundraise: Host an event, Team Fisher House, employee giving Volunteer: Local Fisher House opportunities and Team Fisher House Most corporations are no longer interested in making a donation then disappearing. They want to have “charity of choice” and do things throughout the year to support. We break these support options down to 3 categories. We work with each corporation to find the best fit for them.

5 Cause Marketing What is it? Process for handling requests 3 types:
When a company or business align with a cause to generate business and societal benefits. Mutually beneficial! 3 types: charitable sales promotion free action program point of sale/donation at checkout Process for handling requests Review state regulations Proposal Contract advertising review follow-up

6 Sponsorships Annual Fisher House Golf Classic
Team Fisher House Sponsorships FHGC: 2018 will be the 15th annual Golf Classic and is our only fundraising event each year. To date, it has raised over $8 million. The tournament attracts more than 50 corporate sponsors, up to 288 players and participation from senior VA and military officials, Member of Congress and wounded warriors. In the past we have typically designated the money raised for a future Fisher House project and programs. For 2018, and most likely moving forward, there will no longer be a specific designation. THF: We are able to offer our corporate supporters some great Team Fisher House sponsorships and Gillian will elaborate on those when she speaks shortly.

7 Grants Do’s Don’ts Disregard the application form and format
Research funders who give in your location and to Capital Projects Have all your information complete and ready before you start grant applications Be a registered 501C3, only registered nonprofits are eligible to apply for most grants – contact Megan Wynn, Disregard the application form and format Skip questions Use Fisher House Foundation’s tax id # or any financial information DOS: Make sure the funders give to capital projects, as opposed to a program or project. This will greatly help to narrow your pool. If you are a registered 501c3 a great resource is Before you begin you should have your budget, statement of need, etc. – be prepared! If you are not a registered 501C3, or do not have the staff to submit a grant, please contact Megan. She can submit the grant for your project through the Foundation and 100% of that award will be applied to your project and fundraising goal. DONTS: ALWAYS complete the application in the order and form requested. If they request A, B, then C, list in that order only. Applications could easily be thrown out if you don’t follow the requested order and format. Never put “N/A.” Always acknowledge the question and explain why it doesn’t apply to you. Here is an easy way to look at this. If I wanted to take out a personal loan would I use Gillian’s financial information to apply? NO. I would only use my own. The IRS takes this very seriously – you could be fined and prosecuted.

8 Stewardship First Touch: Calls to $10K+ donors
Second Touch: Handwritten notes to $10K+ donors Third Touch: End of year update letter (includes annual report and The Patriot) Patriot Magazine In person visits Stewardship is fundamental for retaining donors. Since we’ve implemented these stewardship pieces we have seen an increase in retention, as well as the average dollar amount per donation and number of donations.
