2 What is vAuto-Config ?? vAuto-Config is a Inventory management Tool for heterogeneous virtual environment. It is used to collect following data : Remote data collection from ESX, HMC and Squadron. ESX Server configuration i.e. CPU, Memory, Disk etc. Remotely captures the ESX hosts to guest relationship. Remotely captures the Datastore capacity of ESX . Remotely captures the LPAR and VIO relationship from the Managing HMC. Installed on global zone and collects information for all the non-global zones on it. Top 5 CPU and Memory Configured Virtual Server.

3 Functionality vAuto-Config works on Client-Server Architecture:
vAuto-Config Client It collects data at client end (i.e. vMA, Management server or Global Zone) and writes it to a <hostname>.cfg file. This .cfg file is then sent to the server end for uploading the data to the database . Auto-Config Server It is used to process data and represent it in the form of summarised host based or account based reports available at the TI web interface. NOTE: Auto-Config Server v or higher version supports vAuto-Config client.

4 vAuto-Config Highlights
It’s a complete suite which provides collection of configuration data and reports on heterogeneous virtualization environments i.e. ESX, Zone and LPAR Remote data collection from ESX and Frames. Gives the status of an entire environment at a glance. Summaries virtual machine density on host machines which helps in resource utilization and expansion requirements. Helps in forecasting of existing and future virtual environment requirements. Provide workload reports on identifying top 5 CPU and Memory configured VMs and LPARs Summarizes Power/Configuration status of all virtual machines. Excel report download option available. Pictorial flash graphs for management summary reports. Leverage existing TI infrastructure, so no extra implementation cost involved.

5 vAuto-Config Client “vAuto-Config Client captures configuration data from virtual Unix hosts and guest servers.” It collects following data : System Configuration information from virtual server : All hardware configuration of server have as size of RAM, CPU speed, Hard disk type, capacity and allocation structure and many more similar information Host and Virtual guest mapping. Network configuration information. Remote configuration and virtual environment data collection from ESX servers: Manufacturer, Datacenter, Processor, Memory, Firewall, System services etc. Remote configuration and virtual environment data collection using HMC console: Squadron hardware details i.e. physical processor, memory, disk etc. , BIOS, Version.

6 Auto-Config Server Auto-Config Server performs the following tasks:
Extracts data from the .cfg file created at client end. Imports data into database (Postgres SQL). Generates various reports as per client requirements. Pre-requisites for Auto-Config Server : Complete TI Presentation server setup is required for proper functioning of Auto-Config Server, which includes: Perl PS csc_ti server csc_tips Postgres SQL

9 Auto-Config Reports (Cont.)
Reports can be downloaded EXCEL format. Reports can be standardized or customized as per the requirements. Different Reports can be obtained for all hosts (of an account) or for a single host.

10 Virtualization Configuration Report Overview
Virtualization Summary: This report shows account based overall virtualization environment summary. On drill down it will give the details for selected virtual component. Sample Report is as below:

Virtualization Density: Virtualization Density reports enable the user to get the density of virtual guest on each host. It will help to analyze and decide the resource utilization and expansion requirements. Virtualization Details: Virtualization Detail reports enables user to get summary of all available virtual machines for a selected host and enables selection of multiple data fields for a specific virtual server in order to create dynamic reports. Virtualization Workload: Virtualization Workload reports enables an user to get Top 5 CPU and Memory configured Virtual servers on each Host. This report helps to evaluate and decide the workload distribution between virtual machines which in turns increases their productivity, performance and resource utilization.
