The others are “The Trumpeter,” “The Widow’s Home,” and “The Shepherd’s Dog” Used this particular poem to explore the anxieties of her second-class condition in the social order, mainly living under the power of exploitative male authority. She seems to revel in the gore and plays up the treatment of women as victims in the Gothic narrative. Similarities to Coleridge’s “Rime” Use of the supernatural Punishment for crimes Differences Shorter, by a lot Coleridge depicted a world ruled by implacable and largely senseless forces, Robinson creates more conventional plots
