Parent and Friends Association WELCOME TO YOUR PFA
HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED? There are lots of ways you can help and support your child through the PFA. Offering to help leading up to events or at other times during the year is invaluable – it really is a case of ‘many hands make light work’. It doesn’t matter if you can’t help on a regular basis; there are always little jobs that can be done from home, if you have half an hour to spare. If you would like to come along to our meetings, please feel free to just turn up on the day/evening. You can also help by letting us know if you have any contacts or skills we could use – everything is potentially valuable to us. You can help by sending in donations for our events from filled jam jars to soft toys or just by coming along to the events we hold and enjoying the social side of school life. We are always extremely grateful for any help that we receive. We really couldn’t achieve what we do without the unseen ‘army of help’ that exists. It is crucial to the PFA’s ongoing success that we are able to “recruit” new parents to ensure that we can continue to provide items for the children that will enrich and enhance their time at Kingsnorth School. Parent and Friends Association Registered Charity No: WELCOME TO YOUR PFA A BOOKLET FOR NEW PARENTS A very warm welcome to our school. This booklet has been written by the PFA especially for you as a new family within our school community. We realise it can be strange and a little nerve-wracking joining a school, and there always seems to be so many questions to ask. This booklet aims to set out all the information you will need about our Parent and Friends Association, which is a major part of our school life. The PFA is a group of enthusiastic parents, who give up their own time to help the school in various ways. Different events are organised throughout the year to enable everyone to have fun, get to know each other and help raise extra funds for the school. If you think you have the time and energy to be a part of the team, please don’t hesitate to contact us. If you would like to join us or have any questions please get in touch with one of the PFA committee members, ask at the school office, or Don’t forget to check out the school website You can also become a friend of Kingsnorth School PFA on Facebook. The PFA meet on a regular basis usually the last Friday of each month at either 2pm or 7.30pm. OUR PURPOSE We always try and respond to the children’s requests for events and it is truly the icing on the cake to see them having fun at the events or enjoying using a piece of new equipment that the PFA has purchased. We are fortunate, however, to have other opportunities open to us to raise money. Donations are extremely important. These can be time, money, items for sale, donations for raffles or offers of services and skills. WHY ARE WE A REGISTERED CHARITY? It is a legal requirement that organisations such as ours, with an annual income in excess of £5,000 register with the Charity Commission. As a Charity we must abide by Charity Commission rules and regulations and we are bound by a constitution. A full copy can be requested directly from us or from the school office. HOW WE RAISE MONEY Like most PFAs, the majority of our funds are raised through events. Some of our most popular events are the Summer Fête, Fireworks Display, School Discos and Christmas Bazaar. The children have designed their own Christmas cards for the last few years and we are planning to do this again this year. We also raise money by encouraging parents to do their Internet shopping via The Giving Machine, where you can raise money for your PFA at no extra cost to yourself. The Giving Machine is a shopping directory listing some of your favourite online stores including Amazon, NEXT, Debenhams, John Lewis, Ebay, Toys-R-Us, HMV and more. It is completely free to register which takes no more than 5 minutes. All you have to do is log onto Another site is Easysearch, this is instead of using Google as your search engine. All you do is register, then surf the web in your usual way. Every site you enter donates around 1p. By using this service everyday and searching ten sites you could raise £25.00 a year. and enter “Kingsnorth School PFA – Ashford”
