1 Overview – SOE Auto-Config
December 2013

2 What is Auto-Config ?? Auto-Config is a Inventory management Tool. It is used to collect following data : System Hardware configuration information i.e. CPU, Memory, Disk etc. Software inventory scanning i.e. OS packages and patches etc. Third party software i.e. Netbackup, VERITAS, Cluster etc. Database detection and configuration information. Collect information about virtual environment i.e. ZONES, LPAR, WPAR Licensing information i.e. VERITAS Licenses, OS license etc. Server Uptime and Last logged in user info. Hardware Finance, Warranty and Lease Information. It collects more than 70 categories of system configuration, network services, and installed package information.

3 Functionality Auto-Config works on Client-Server Architecture, thus have two parts: Auto-Config Client It collects data at the client end and write it to a <hostname>.cfg file. This .cfg file then sent to the server end for uploading the data to the database as well as into the CVS . Auto-Config Server This part is used to process data and represent it in the form of summarised host based or account based reports at the TI web interface. This will collect, process and report data from below clients: Auto-Config Client. vAuto-Config Client. NOTE: vAuto-config client is used to collect data from virtual infrastructure i.e. ESX, Global Zone and HMC.

4 Auto-Config v.13.0-3 Highlights
Client Enhancements: Enhancement to capture empty Stanza Fields. Enhancement to capture the snapshot of /etc/hosts file. Ability to capture Oracle Virtual Manager (SPARC) version and domain configuration data. Ability to capture Root Partition Type. Added following new fields in Stanza file: Detailed Location, Account Details and Remote Console Type Enhanced Stanza file security (with permission as 600). Server Enhancements: Introduced Stanza File Bulk Management feature Added Host based Stanza File Management capability Introduced Stanza field data administration interface. Following features are available for all STANZA related interfaces: Logging enabled for Addition, Edit, and Deletion etc. Online help available for each field. Easy input option toggle from select box to free text or vice versa. New ACL to secure STANZA field data administration. Stanza Distribution status tracking.

5 Auto-Config v.13.0-3 Highlights
Server Reporting Enhancements: Introduced new report “Incomplete Stanza Fields” with two report format options: Missing Fields listing / Host Missing Fields count /Host Introduced new Host based “Missing Stanza File Fields” report for each host. Introduced new Oracle Virtual manager (SPARC) configuration HTML report. Root Partition Type included in Auto-Config ADHOC and System Comparison reports. Auto-Config Version Field included in ADHOC and System Comparison reports. Introduced Change History form for each host. Introduced Contract Management alerting feature, to track expiry date and feature to scheduled custom report notification.

6 Auto-Config Client “Auto-Config Client is used for capturing the configuration and software data from the Unix servers without any operator intervention at regular period of time.” It is used for gathering following data : System Configuration information as : All hardware configuration of server have as size of RAM, CPU speed, Hard disk type, capacity and allocation structure, ports information, server is a physical or virtual host and many more similar information Administrative software related information as server is any infrastructure server (NIM, Jumpstart, Ignite etc.) or a client of any other such server, LPAR, LDAP configuration information, etc. Network configuration information. Installed Software and VERITAS Netback up information NTP Server and configuration Information.

7 Auto-Config Server Auto-Config Server required for below listed tasks:
Extracting data from the file created via client end. Storing that information into the Database (Postgres SQL). Generating various reports as per clients requirement. Pre-requisites for Auto-Config Server : Complete TI Presentation server setup is required for proper functionality of Auto-Config Server, which includes: Perl PS csc_ti server csc_tips Postgres SQL

9 Value Proposition There is a global need to collect data from, and produce reports for, all of CSC managed servers Data is required by MCS support teams, regional managers, account teams, etc. to satisfy CSC, our clients, and our vendors, that we are meeting contractual obligations Data valuable for Transformation/New Business exercises Auto-Config collects this data in a single repository, significantly reducing the labor required to produce both regular and ad-hoc reports This information can be used when planning system upgrades or disaster recovery plans, maintaining records of OS/application software licenses, and to populate the CERT database. A set of standard reports are available. These include, Standard CERT spreadsheet (Machines tab) OS Currency status report OS/Database/Security Patch Compliance reports Software Inventory reports (e.g. CA inventory, VERITAS Audit) 9

10 Auto-Config Reports Auto-config reports are categorized as below:

13 Auto-Config Reports (Cont.)
Reports can be downloaded when needed , as well as can be scheduled to be delivered automatically to the user’s Lotus Notes address, according to the schedule (daily, weekly, fortnightly or monthly) and format type (PDF, EXCEL, TEXT) selected. Reports can be standard or customized according to the requirements. Different Reports may be obtained for all hosts (of an account) or for a single host. Reports for all hosts are obtained from left hand side menu on the Navigation Overview page. Report for a single host are obtained from left hand side menu after clicking the Corresponding Status tab from top and the hostname. NOTE: Below are some sample reports of Auto-Config.

14 System Management Reports Overview
CERT : The CERT report option produces a report in the same format as the CERT spreadsheet that is used to aid customer billing. Sample Report is as below:
