Electives Mission Statement:
The mission of the Sossaman Middle School Electives is to inspire students to realize their full potential by providing the knowledge and skills for future success. Electives provide a comprehensive learning environment to develop essential life skills, complement and support core subjects, and enhance the overall learning experience.

Financial Responsibilities
Instrument Supplies – see teacher page Band Shirt – I will be sending out order forms in August Black pants or skirt and black shoes. Think black from the waist down Percussion pays a $75 instrument usage fee If you would like to donate any items, I am always in need of tissue, Clorox wipes & 9 batteries

Performances Must be on time, dressed in concert attire and remain for entire performance. Sept Fall Concert – 7th Concert and 8th Symphonic SMS gym Oct HHS Football Game HHS time TBA– 8th grade Symphonic Band Dec. 14 Winter Concert – all SMS gym Jan. 24 Band Bash Recruiting Concerts – 8th grade Symphonic HCPA time TBA March 6 Spring Dinner/Dessert Concert – all bands SMS Courtyard May End of the Year Concert – all SMS gym 8th grade Symphonic band performs at school pep assemblies and other events during school hours. Other possible performances/activities: 8th grade Symphonic Band Disney Soundtrack Disneyland (dependent on school board approval) Perform at Fine Arts Festival Concert and Beginning Band to the MIM

A Typical Rehearsal… Warm-up – Long Tones and Technical Exercises
Scales Sight-read Music Rehearse Concert Music Playing assessments on Fridays Based on state music standards

Grading Weekly Participation Assessment 35%
Coming to class prepared and rehearsing appropriately Weekly Playing Assessments 35% Weekly test is announced on Monday and it is something we work on in class Performances 30% Students must make up absences Students may re-take playing quizzes

Classroom Management Plan
If a behavior problem arises, the following consequence plan will take place: Verbal Warning Parent Contacted Office referral If a single behavioral interaction is a serious violation, a student can expect to be immediately referred to Administration and/or removed from class.

TAX CREDIT Please consider making a donation through tax credit to the Sossaman Middle School Band Program. Up to $200 per individual OR $400 per couple.
