1 With Electrical Grounding
Bearing Gard TM With Electrical Grounding

2 Why use a Bearing Gard with Electrical Grounding?
Extend electric motor life and improve reliability Electric motors driven with Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) have two main failure modes: bearing contamination and bearing damage from electrical discharge machining (EDM) commonly known as electrical fluting The Bearing Gard with electrical grounding provides excellent protection against these two failure modes: The Bearing Gard provides protection against contamination ingress Flowserve has partnered with the Industry leader in shaft voltage grounding, AEGIS®, to provide the AEGIS SGR to protect against EMD Combined into one easy to install package, the Bearing Gard with electrical grounding is the best way to protect motors using VFDs

Two great technologies in one simple package Full-featured Bearing Gard AEGIS® Grounding Ring

4 Electrical Grounding How it Works

5 PWM Voltage to Motors – A Problem for Bearings
Unbalanced voltage condition When operated by VFD, the power to the motor is a series of positive and negative pulses instead of a smooth sine wave. The input voltage is never balanced because the voltage is either 0 volts, positive, or negative with rapid switching between pulses in all three phases. Bearing protection needed to mitigate electrical discharge machining (EDM) damage in bearings caused by the unbalanced voltage.

6 Prevent EDM with AEGIS®
Electrical discharge machining (EDM) creates thousands of pits Bearings degrade, resulting in increased friction and noise Eventually, the rolling elements can cause fluting damage to the bearing races Bearing lubrication/grease deteriorates/burnt Potential for costly unplanned downtime

7 Patented AEGIS® Ring design
Specially Designed Microfibers Flex Without Breaking – Ultra Low Friction Patented FiberLock™ Channel Secures and Protects Fibers AEGIS® Ring discharges harmful shaft voltages away from the bearing to ground
