4 What is an Essay? An essay is a written collection of prose, organized and divided neatly into paragraphs Always remember that an essay is a written form of communication and therefore, must be clear, organized and easily understandable to those reading

10 HOW TO FIND A THEME FOR YOUR ESSAY
A theme is the main idea for an Essay. It is like the skeleton of an animal. It gives shape and unity to your work.

11 DAFTI D: different types, attitudes, reasons or factors,
A: advantages & disadvantages of a topic F: factual account T: time or historical approach to a topic I: importance of a topic in the life of a man

13 WAYS OF STARTING AN ESSAY
The introduction has two main purposes: to draw the reader in and make him/her want to read more and to prepare the reader for the direction that the essay is going to take. Go straight to the point. Don’t waste time and effort with an introduction!

14 STOAP METHOD Start with dialogue S: speech T: theme
Start your theme in your opening sentence O: opinion Start with an opinion about your topic. A: action Describe some action which is related to your theme. P: proverb or quotation Find a suitable quote or proverb

“Are modern inventions making us lazy?”

16 CONCLUTION Just as every essay has a clear beginning, it should have a clear ending. The last paragraph, also known as the conclusion, should give your essay a sound end.

17 CONCLUDING PARAGRAPH Concluding Paragraph

18 SCARF METHOD S: sum up an argument or give a summary of your main points. C: climax, the most exciting point in a story etc A: air of finality, use any method which shows the reader you have finished. R: repeat your theme and prove your point. F: look into future, confined what may happened in the future.
