5. Kungsbacka – history in short
Market town from the 13th century
Records of two market places in Kungsbacka date as far back as King Valdemar in 1231
Belonged to Denmark until 1630
In the 12th century Kungsbacka and the whole region of Halland became part of the Danish kingdom
A fire destroyed the entire town on a market night in August 1846
The railway between Gothenburg and Kungsbacka opened in 1888
The population began to increase rapidly in the 1960´s

The centre of Kungsbacka is a rapidly expanding idyllic small town with charming little shops, restaurants and cafes
Surrounding the town centre are modern shopping malls, such as Kungsmässan, and the outlet centre Freeport

The entire western part of the municipality lies along the coastline of Kattegatt
Kullavik, Särö, Vallda, Onsala, Åsa and Frillesås are small townships close to salt water and sandy beaches

Towards the east there are open landscapes with farms, meadows and lakes But also decidiuous and evergreen forests
Fjärås, Gällinge and Idala are villages close to forests and lakes

Guest harbours in Gottskär, Vallda Sandö and Lerkil with good accomodation for the yachting people
The ”Kungsrike” including Tjolöholm castle, the ancient village Äskhult and the ridge of Fjärås are popular places to visit
The town centre, the mall Kungsmässan and the outlet centre Freeport tempt with shopping
