2 TEMPUS IV (2007-2013) Overall objectives:
To establish an area of cooperation in the field of HE. To promote voluntary convergence with EU HE developments deriving from the Lisbon agenda and the Bologna process. TEMPUS is an educational and not a research programme! - ACM, EU-Third Countries Programmes Martina Friedrich, 20 June 2008

3 TEMPUS IV (2007-2013) Specific objectives:
To promote reform and modernisation of HE in partner countries. To enhance quality and relevance of HE in partner countries. To build up the capacity of HEI in partner countries. To foster the development of human resources. To enhance mutual understanding. NEW: National and multi-country priorities! - ACM, EU-Third Countries Programmes Martina Friedrich, 20 June 2008

4 Participating countries:
TEMPUS IV ( ) Participating countries: 27 EU-Member States and Albania, Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Egypt, FYR of Macedonia, Georgia, Israel (new!), Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Moldova, Montenegro Morocco, Palestinian Authority, Russian Federation, Serbia, Syria, Tajikistan, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan Participation as a partner on self-financing basis: Turkey and EFTA countries only NEW: Partner countries received the right to apply and all kind of partner countries’ combination are possible! - ACM, EU-Third Countries Programmes Martina Friedrich, 20 June 2008

6 Grant size and project duration:
TEMPUS IV ( ) Grant size and project duration: From € ,- to € 1, ,- (new!) (for Albania, Montenegro and Central Asia: minimum € ,-) Project duration: up to 36 months (new!) 8 ERASMUS MUNDUS II (2009-13) DRAFT!
This new generation of ERASMUS MUNDUS (EM) is in preparation! Overall objective: To enhance the quality of European HE by fostering cooperation with third countries in order to improve the development of human resources and to promote dialogue and understanding between peoples and cultures. The “new” Action 1 (Joint EM Programmes) under EM II will merge the “old” Actions 1, 2 and 3 under EM I: Action 1 (EM Masters Courses) EC selects high-quality integrated masters courses which are offered by a consortium of at least three HEI from at least three EU-/EEA-countries Action 2 (Scholarships) EC gives scholarships to highly qualified graduate students and scholars from third countries to participate in the selected EM masters courses Action 3 (Partnerships) EC select high-quality partnerships between selected EM masters courses and third-country HEI - ACM, EU-Third Countries Programmes Martina Friedrich, 20 June 2008

The “new” Action 2 (EM Partnerships) under EM II will be the former Erasmus Mundus External Cooperation Window (EMECW): The EM Partnership is between EU and Third Countries HEI in specific regions (lots) as a basis for structural cooperation and mobility - normally - at all levels of higher education, including a scholarship scheme There are specific rules for each Lot! - ACM, EU-Third Countries Programmes Martina Friedrich, 20 June 2008
