Eminem and LL Cool J could show up at parents’ weekend. Having a chat has seldom involved talking. A tablet is no longer something you take in the morning. “Dude” has never had a negative tone. Plasma has never been just a bodily fluid. Their parents have always bemoaned the passing of precocious little Calvin and sarcastic stuffy Hobbes.

A brief introduction… Please stop running in the hallway, you are going to knock someone down. It is inappropriate to sit in the middle of the doorway and expect people to go around you. You need to sit down, your pacing is making me dizzy. Please use your inside voice. Make sure to use deodorant on days we have an appointment (and every other day for that matter). Remember to maintain 2 feet of personal space when we have a conversation.

Level 1 “Requiring support”
Social communication-Without supports in place, deficits in social communication cause noticeable impairments. Difficulty initiating social interactions, and clear examples of atypical or unsuccessful responses to social overtures of others. May appear to have decreased interest in social interactions. Restricted, repetitive behaviors-Inflexibility of behavior causes significant interference with functioning in one or more contexts. Difficulty switching between activities. Problems of organization and planning hamper independence.

Disability Services in College
Accommodations are based on functional limitations in educational testing Not everything requested is granted as an accommodation Disability Services cannot alter the curriculum in any manner; no modifications Accommodation plans must be updated every semester ADA-civil rights legislation. Equal access not success Students must meet the same entrance requirements Registering for Disability Services is separate than Admissions Students diagnosed with ADHD, LD or Autism Spectrum disorders must have educational testing

Tips for the classroom Communication-let the students know when their behavior is inappropriate Please feel free to call the coordinator listed on the accommodation plan Follow verbal instructions with an to the student-Documentation Parental support can be helpful
