QUICK TIPS Quick reminders when preparing to submit life business

7 Quick Tips… Licensing Generic Tips Temporary Coverage
Preparing the Client for The Application

8 Licensing… Please make sure your advisor has submitted appointment paperwork through First Command Licensing prior to taking their first app with any carrier that is not an “automatic appointment”. All licensing request should be submitted to CompEdge Carriers: TransPremier, Liberty National and Globe Life ARE Automatic Appointments. For All other carriers advisors must apply to be appointed. Failure to have appointment paperwork submitted to the carrier prior to taking the application could result in a new application being required! Several States have very short “Backdating” time frames. Do Not Hold on to apps after they have been signed and dated as you risk having to complete a new application. For Annuity Business – Product Training is Mandatory and must be completed prior to submission. Some training is State Specific. Make sure your advisor has completed all necessary training prior to submission of case. New applications may be required if the advisor’s licensing and/or training is not in good order.

9 Licensing Continued… When your advisor is writing an application in a non-resident state, make sure the advisor is appointed, or in a “Just In Time” Status for that State. Always confirm if advisor is appointed with a carrier when submitting application in a state that is not the advisor’s resident state. AIG Inforce - If you know this is an advisor’s first app a note on the cover memo helps us to help you avoid licensing issues! Advisor’s outside of the states of NY, NJ, PA, and CT cannot get a new US Life Appt. The app must be signed by the Home Office. Being Licensed and Being Appointed are two different things. Licensed Associates MAY NOT sign an application unless they are appointed with a carrier. If they sign the application they will be listed as advisor of record, as only ONE advisor can sign an application. For ANICO, please submit your contracting paperwork before you submit the application. This will allow you to see the requirements on ANICO’s website after submission. You will not be able to see cases on ANICO’s website until the advisor’s appointment is completed. If your advisor has written an ANICO Annuity, their producer number will be the same for Life Business. Appointment/contracting paperwork will sit in the Just In Time status until business is submitted. But, be aware… Some States are “Pre-appointment” states, not “Just in Time” states. Check with First Command Licensing to see which states are Pre-Appointment States

10 Generic Quick tips… AIG In Force & Lincoln: Are the ONLY Applications are submitted to CompEdge, all other applications are submitted directly to the respective carrier. Do not submit these applications to the carrier directly! Our preferred method for submission is the Submit Forms Button found on the CompEdge website under each carriers tab. If it is not submitted to CompEdge information on where to submit the application can be found under this tab. Please DO NOT mail an application after it has been submitted electronically, that creates duplicate work for us. DETAILS MATTER! Demographics, signatures, dates, questions. As an AA one of the greatest areas where you can help your advisor is in reviewing apps prior to submission for missing data and details for “yes” answers, if a question is answered “YES” they want details. Always look for parenthesis on applications! When an application ask for Advisor/Agent Number, they want the advisor’s number with the carrier, not their First Command Advisor Number.

11 Generic Quick tips… State Specific Applications must be signed in the same state that the application is for. For In-Force Business the State that matters is the Owner/New Owner’s State, not the insured’s state (unless they are becoming the owner for the new policy). Lincoln & NLG/LSW: advisor appointments & application requirements are based on the Insured’s state of residence (App must show signed in that state). ANICO – If application is signed somewhere other than Insured/Owner’s Resident State put a note in the notes section of the application as to WHY it was not signed in Resident State. Age Nearest vs Attained Age Age Nearest: If client’s birthday is within 6 months and 3 days of issue date/date you run illustration then the policy will issue “Age Nearest” their next age. Age Nearest Carriers: Lincoln, AIG, ANICO, NLG, Transamerica (Trendsetter Super), One America Attained Age Carriers: Transamerica (Trendsetter LB), Trans Premier, Liberty Consider age nearest rule and when the policy will be issued if you are running your own illustrations. Always look at Illustrations sent to you from CompEdge and consider whether client will cross age nearest threshold prior to issue. When requesting illustrations ALWAYS provide Dates of Birth, not just client age!

12 Generic Quick tips continued…
STANDARD NT is NOT considered a Rated Policy. We don’t recommend running better than standard unless you are fully confident that the client has no medical issues or other potential underwriting issues. It is better to Under Promise, and Over Deliver! Tobacco – please ALWAYS ask clients before you take an application whether they use any tobacco products, or have smoked cigarettes within the past year. Preferred NT is NOT Available if client has used tobacco within certain time frames. Carrier and product specific rules apply. AIG In-Force: Once NT rate has been established it is grandfathered for ALL future OPAIs stemming from the same base policy. Lincoln has a Tobacco Program that allows Standard Non-tobacco Rating for clients who use pipes, cigars, nicotine patch, nicotine gum or chewing tobacco. As long as it is admitted on the application. Cigarettes and E-Cigarette within one year of application date will receive a tobacco rating. Nicotine Levels in the system are higher for Cigarette and E- cigarette Users.

13 Generic Quick tips continued…
EFT Forms – Do Not Cover Any Contract Language with a copy of the check All carriers: The Term “Applicant” means owner. Advisor’s can write applications on themselves without another advisor signing. Apps should only be signed by the “writing” advisor. If advisor’s are splitting commision, both must be appointed with the company, but only ONE can sign the application. Replacement Forms: If completing a replacement the application & replacement form must have identical signature dates and be submitted at the same time as the application, if they aren’t new apps are required – the exception is NY! Call for questions on NY. Lincoln & ANICO: If the replacement form asks a YES/NO question as to whether a replacement is being done, the form is REQUIRED regardless if there is a replacement occurring. All carriers: All pages of all forms are required, even if they look like they are just “instructions”. All carriers: Information submitted on NON-Carrier forms is not accepted, with the exception of copies of voided checks or physician records. IF IT IS NOT ON AN OFFICIAL FORM IT IS NOT OFFICIAL! Please always consider whether the following forms may be needed: Aviation, Avocation, Foreign Travel, Replacements, 1035 Exchanges, Accelerated Benefit Riders (Chronic vs Non Chronic), Military Disclosure (ANICO does not accept FC’s 817E form), Child Rider Supplement (AIG), or Continuation of Details/Supplemental Application Forms.

14 Temporary coverage quick tips…
ANICO: Fill out Conditional Receipt form in package. EFT is acceptable payment for Temporary Coverage. They will not draft until issue. NLG/LSW – Conditional Coverage form must be submitted. Check or EFT information must be provided for TC. EFT will not draft until issue. Transamerica: Does not require a check if a Bank Draft form is completed. TC does not start until the Paramed and Labs are RECEIVED at carrier. Maximum TC period is 60 days.

15 TC quick tips Continued…
Lincoln: Now accepts Permanent Check or EFT form with a PERMANENT Voided Check or a Letter from the Client’s Bank for TC (Temporary Checks are not allowed for EFT or Temporary Life). Do not collect a check if you do not want TC. EFT is drafted for initial modal premium upon receipt. TC starts the day agreement is signed (must be within 7 days of Part 1 of app being signed, we recommend it always be signed with the same date as the Application). TC will terminate if Paramed and Labs are not RECEIVED within 45 days. Max TC period is state specific (typically 60 or 90 days). The Temporary Life form mentions credit cards, this is NOT an option for First Command.

16 Preparing for the appointment…
Have client bring the following to their appointment: A list of EVERY medical provider seen in the last 5 years, including their name, address, city, state, zip, phone. A list of all prescription medicines take in the last 30 days, including dosages. A list of all insurance polices, including policy numbers, issue date and amount of coverage. Beneficiary Names, Birthdates, SSN, Phone Numbers, Complete Addresses. Check Book. Driver’s License. Inquire ahead if client’s records are at a Military Base or VA Facility. If so a DD2870 or Department of Veterans affairs medical release form will be required.
