Software Engineering II Project
Online Book Trade Software Engineering II Project
2
Contents Introduction Project Cost-Benefit Analysis
Proposed Step Procedures Conclusion
3
Introduction Many students go through semesters without having the required book for the class They can’t afford to buy them They are not available at the FIU Library Eventually, this hurts their academic studies, and ultimately the school’s academic level as a whole
4
Introduction Currently, a great number of students who do buy the book, buy it from other students or online via Half.com, Amazon.com, etc. Our proposal is to develop an online site for FIU Students which will allow them to post their books for sale or barter
5
Project Cost-Benefit Analysis
Allow students to buy textbooks cheaper and/or barter for books Let them trade books so no cost is incurred. Allow them to purchase books that they were not able to afford before Save students money, thereby allowing them to free up some work time and spend more time studying for classes Ultimately, bring up the academic level of school
6
Project Cost-Benefit Analysis
Service can later be used to bring in revenue for the school by charging a small fee for students to post books Get students more involved in academic studies by giving them the possibility to buy affordable books in their field of study Be a service for students - bring up student moral Reduce the amount of waist paper generated by posting Make school neater by minimizing clutter on post-it boards
7
Proposed Step Procedures Step One - Setup
Initially, the page will be created by student volunteers (us) on their own time. No designing costs It will be a static site Page will be hosted at a student’s FIU web site No new hosting equipment required
8
Proposed Step Procedures Step One - Implementation
Students will have to admin (one of the student volunteers) who will manually add or remove their listing from the site Listings will be posted on site for a set amount of time (after that, admin will remove listing)
9
Proposed Step Procedures Step Two - Setup
Web site design to change into a dynamic site A backend database will be designed and implemented Web site will connect to database to bring in available books School will either hire student part-time to code and manage web-site, or can assign this project to be done as a class project School will either provide a server to host site or can pay for third party hosting
10
Proposed Step Procedures Step Two - Implementation
Students will be able to go online and fill out a form to add their book to the database Removing listings from database after set amount of time will be automatic System will allow students to search site for specific book
11
Conclusion By creating this site, the school will add a service for students Bring up student moral Make it possible for all students to get the course book Allow students to save money Bring up academic level of school Reduce the amount of paper waist caused by posting on school tack boards Best of all, this web site will initially cost the school nothing, and may eventually even bring in some revenue for the school.
