biosphere BY caelyn davis, Abby crim, and nick pratico All the regions of the earth and its atmosphere in which living organisms are found or can live
2
biomes A biome is a specific environment that's become a habitat to living things suited for that place and climate. Biomes climate can be affected by their latitude. Generally, the further away a biome is from the equator, the cooler the climate gets. Examples are grasslands, shrublands, marine, tundra and desert.
3
WHAT BIOMES CAN BE FOUND ON EARTH
Water- Freshwater Marine Estuary Terrestrial- Rainforest Grassland Desert Tundra Coniferous forest Deciduous forest Shrublands Wetlands
4
Desert What is a desert? A desert is an arid region of land that receives little rainfall and due to this, few forms of life can survive here. Some animals and plants that live in this biome are snakes, lizards, mice, cacti, gazelle, and coyotes
5
Tundra What is a tundra? A tundra is a vast, treeless, arctic region in Europe, Asia and North America where the subsoil is permanently frozen. Some animals and plants include caribou, arctic moss, pasque flower, arctic fox, white wolves, grizzly bears, and bald eagles
6
Rainforest What is a rainforest? A rainforest is a forest with a large amount of biodiversity typically found in tropical areas where heavy rainfall is common Some plants and animals here include banana, orchid, coffee, brazil nut tree, poinsettia, insects, snakes, parrots, toucans, sloths and jaguars
7
Temperate forest What is a temperate forest? A temperate forest is a woodland that has a mild climate within the temperate zone. They receive heavy rainfall and has incredible amounts of trees. Animals in this biome include hawks, deer, raccoons, porcupines, and foxes
8
Grasslands What is a grassland? A grassland is a large open area of land covered in grass. Most animals in this biome are grazing creatures such as bison, elk, deer, burrowing owl, and jack rabbit. Most plants in this biomes are different types of grass.
9
HABITATS Niche: species that plays a key role in
an ecosystem Example: Bees Terrestrial: land in general Aquatic: water in general Marine: salt water Estuary: an area where fresh and salt water mix (good habitat for growing animals)
10
Abiotic and biotic factors
Abiotic factors are the nonliving things in an ecosystem. Examples of this are water, soil, temperature, air, and wind. Biotic Factors are living things in an ecosystem, such as plants, animals, fungi, & microorganisms
11
Food chains and food webs
A food chain is a diagram that shows how food energy moves from one organism to another. A food web is a system of food chains that are dependent on each other.
12
Important roles in biome
Producer- an organism that makes all of the energy Consumer- an organism that must eat other organisms to get energy Decomposer- eat dead and decaying matter
13
Biodiversity: the variety of organisms in the biosphere
Biodiversity is incredibly important for it creates sustainability in a ecosystem.
