3. Cells
God blessed the Earth with the conditions necessary to support life
Cells testify to God’s creative and sustaining work
All living things from slime molds to redwood trees, and tiny aquatic worms living under the sea to polar bears have one thing in common.
All of them are made up of cells – the smallest unit in which life processes can be carried out.

4. This is the basic unit of structure of all living things.
This is a plant cell.
What is a cell?
This is the basic unit of structure of all living things.

5. Cell Wall This is around each plant cell.
It is made of a tough substance called cellulose.
It helps to keep the shape of the cell.
Animal Cells do not have this.

6. Cell Membrane
This is a thin layer directly beneath the cell wall.

7. Cytoplasm : This is a jelly-like fluid.
It contains smaller structures call organelles.
There are different types of organelles, with
different functions.
Nucleus: This controls the activity in the cell.
Chloroplast : This is a type of organelle which contains
chlorophyll.
Chlorophyll : These give plants their green color
and helps to make food.

8. Vacuoles

9. Vacuoles Vacuoles play an important role in plant structure.
Most of a plant cell's volume depends on the material in vacuoles. They gain and lose water depending on how much water is available.
A drooping plant has lost much of its water and the vacuoles are shrinking.
When the plant finds a new source of water, the vacuoles are refilled and the plant regains its structure.

These are not found in animal cell. If so, we might be green and make our own food.

16. Cell Theory
In 1665 Robert Hooke became the first person to see cells when he used the recently invented microscope to look at a thin slice of tree cork.
He named the empty compartments cells because they reminded him of the tiny rooms where monks lived

As microscopes improved scientist were able to see the structure of animal cells and plant cells.
This research became known as cell theory
The foundation of modern biology
Cell theory states that
All living things are composed of one or more cells
A cell is the basic unit of life in all living things. All of the chemical reactions of a living organism occur within its cells.
All cells come from other cells
