1 Scheduling systems Carsten Preuß
LSF PBS / Torque SunGridEngine Computing Cluster

2 LSF Many complains about LSF Many additional needs
No (real working) accounting System behaviour somtimes unclear Job resumeeing sometimes not working Many additional needs Faishare Reporting Job checkpointing / migration

3 LSF Why not upgrade tp LSF 7 ? Expensive
Licences will be counted on core base not on CPU base (what about HT?) Need currently additional ~1600 licences 25€ to buy a license + 12,50€ per year

4 PBS / Torque Tested on a small cluster Has some instabilities
Easy to use and administrate (all config files are plain text files) Only useable with Maui on top

5 SunGridEngine Currently installed on 30 nodes In use parallel to LSF
Will be extended to 70 nodes today In use parallel to LSF Test of slight migration from LSF to SGE Test of dynamic behaviour in changing load situations LSF is NOT reconfigured ALICE users should be the first to use it

6 SunGridEngine FairShare is working (has some problems with small fractions) Support for job checkpointing / migration Hardware usage can be strongly improved by moving from job slot based scheduling (LSF) to load based scheduling Support for parallel environments Somehow very complicated to use

7 Computing cluster Department based queues will be replaced via Fair Share Queues will depend on needed environment (exclusive, parallel, ..) resources kind of jobs (analyse, simulation, ..)
