TRANS / PORT Make a list of all the words you can come up with that have either the prefix or root of the word “transport”. Translation: rendering in another language with the same meaning Translucent: allowing light to pass through diffusely Porter = one who carries things, as baggage Import = to bring in goods; as, from a foreign country What do you think each part means? Prefix: trans = across Root: port = carry

How are stories constructed? What is a hero? What is a true friend? What is a good leader? How does modern literature connect to literature of the past?

Mummy Dearest Brainstorm: what are the attributes of motherhood? Let’s read about Grendel’s MUMMY… Now, generate a list of words which describe Grendel and Grendel’s mother What is the connotative meaning of these descriptions? What is the purpose of Grendel and his mummy in the epic?

What is the role of the bard? Poem within a poem (framed narrative) Record any piece you can recite from memory in part or in entirety Share recitation with partner and discuss implications of what you can remember and recite
