1 Warm-up Based on what you learned yesterday… Draw a picture, in your notes, representing your knowledge of intrapersonal(about yourself) skills verses interpersonal(interacting with others) skills.

2 Wants vs. Needs and Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs
5.01 Day 2: Understand Interpersonal and Intrapersonal Skills

3 Wants vs. Needs Write your own definition of 1. Want 2. Need

4 Definition Compare yours to these
Want: Something you do not have to have to survive but desire Need: Something required for survival. Anybody know who sang the song with these lyrics?

5 Your wants vs needs… For the next few minutes make a chart in your notebook. Half of the page should be images of things you want and the other half should be images of your needs. What do you find interesting when thinking about money and the list you have made?

6 What does Maslow say about our needs?
Take a few minutes and google Maslow and write a sentence or two that you think summarizes his theory. (HINT: it is called the Hierarchy of Needs)

7 Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs
This five stage model can be divided into basic steps One must satisfy lower level basic needs before progressing on to meet higher level growth needs. Once these needs have been reasonably satisfied, one may be able to reach the highest level called self-actualization.

8 Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs
Every person is capable and has the desire to move up the hierarchy toward a level of self-actualization. Unfortunately, progress is often disrupted by failure to meet lower level needs. Life experiences, including divorce and loss of job may cause an individual to fluctuate between levels of the hierarchy. Maslow noted only one in a hundred people become fully self-actualized because our society rewards motivation primarily based on esteem, love and other social needs.

9 Assignment Using the Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs Pyramid worksheet make your own versions of Maslow’s Hierarchy. This is due today. Be creative and follow the instructions
