1 4th Grade End of the Year Party
Unit 11 5th 6 Weeks

2 Party Time! It’s up to you and your group to plan an End of School Party for the 4th grade. You must include at least one type of snack, one drink combination, and one kind of entertainment. Lastly, stay on budget.

3 The Budget The PTO has donated $525

4 The Locations Day 1 Why would it be important to know the perimeter and area of our location?

5 The Locations Day 1 Cafeteria: 50ft by 50ft Playground: 125ft by 140ft
Work with your group to determine the area and perimeter of these possible party locations. Cafeteria: 50ft by 50ft Playground: 125ft by 140ft Parking Lot: 85ft by 105ft

6 Pick A Location Day 1 Let’s take a survey on where we would like our party. We’ll record our choice on a frequency table. Location Number of Students Cafeteria Playground Parking Lot

7 Money Day 2 Today, you need to choose a meal for the party and what kind of entertainment you would like!! Use the handouts to make your choices. Remember, STAY ON BUDGET!

8 Capacity Day 3 The PTO has a surprise for you!! They are bringing a dunk tank to the party. All of your teachers will take a turn in the tank!

9 Capacity Day 3 Problem: PTO isn’t sure how much water the tank can hold. The tank came with all the wrong supplies. They need your help to figure out the directions!!!

Step 1: Pour in 2 pints of chlorine into the tank to keep germs away. Problem: Chlorine is labeled in cups. How many cups do they need to use?

Step 2: Mix the chlorine with 3 gallons of water. Oops: The company only sent water in quarts. How many quarts do they need to use?

Step 4: Allow the mixture to rest for 5 minutes. Then, add 3 pints of very hot water to help kill any germs. Oops: Remember, the company only sent water in quarts. How many quarts do they need to use?

Step 5: Add in 16 cups of cold water to finalize the mixture. How many gallons do they need to use?

15 Capacity Day 4 What is a party without drinks?!
You and your group must decide which kinds of drinks to provide your classmates.

16 Capacity Day 4 Uh oh, there’s a problem:
The cafeteria can’t get the drinks in cans or bottles. They promise they can still use your choice with the same amount of servings. However, they need your help to use the metric system so that each student can get the same amount of drink.

18 Length Day 6 You did such an awesome job finding the capacity of the dunk tank!! Because of your great work, the PTO has asked you to be in charge of measuring the distances used with the dunk tank. The PTO could only find meter sticks.

19 Weight Day 7 The carts carrying the supplies to the party can only hold so much weight. The PTO needs your help making sure they don’t overload the carts and break them.

20 Mass Day 8 Mr. Pope is worried the carts carrying the sound equipment to the party can’t hold much mass. Mr. Pope needs your help making sure volunteers don’t overload the carts and break them.

22 Let’s Order the T-Shirts!
Fractions Day 9 Let’s Order the T-Shirts! -Survey the class to see what color T-Shirt they would like to order. Use the Frequency Table/Line Plot (Color of T-Shirts Survey Form) -Complete the Line Plot with the information from the survey. -Complete the order form for your class (T-Shirt Order FORM) -Complete the Fractions and Surveys Handout for all classes and answer the questions.

24 Time Day 10 Let’s plan our fun day! Make a schedule to be sure you have time to complete each event. Start time: 8:30am Finish time: 3:15pm Set up (30 minutes) Lunch (1 hour 30 minutes) Dunk tank (1 hour) Entertainment (1 hour 15 minutes) Games (1 hour) T-Shirt Signing (1 hour) Clean up (30 minutes)

25 Temperature Day 11 Check the temperature today.
Record the temperatures from the last 10 days on your assigned graph. Be ready to share and explain.

26 Budget Check Day 12 Time to check your budget!
