Everyone has Rights! ANA MARIA CRUZ PROFESSOR RAMOS English 1A

2 Rights prisoners have the right to be free from inhumane conditions under the eighth amendment (Thomson Reuters pg 1) Have the right to be free from sexual crimes, including sexual harassment (Thomson Reuters pg 1) Have a right to free speech about the way they are being treated or the are they stay in (Thomson Reuters pg 2) Also have right to take their concerns to a court they have right to medical treatment, whether its long term or short term

3 Prisoners are given a lot of the same rights that free people walking on the street are given, although they did commit a crime some worse then others, we do have laws in place to protect those in prison. Some people think the laws may be a little unfair because they are criminals, but at the end of the day they are human as well and they deserve to be treated as so. Prisoners lose right to privacy and the right to call things their own. A lot of correctional officers think its ok to disrespect and not pay attention to the needs of prisoners, they see them as less then human and that’s not ok. There are a lot of prisoners that end up hurt or dead and it could all be avoided if they were listened to and shown respect. If they were treated like human. There is a reason that the country has laws for everyone in any circumstance including those in prison

4 Mental ill inmate they receive proper mental care under the circumstances of their mental illness before they renter society (Natalie Mcgill pg. 1) Inmates with a psychological issue are put into a restrictive housing(Natalie Mcgill pg. 1) Solitary confinement can worsen mental illness and trigger new ones (Natalie Mcgill pg. 1) mental ill inmates will be placed in certain section of a prison so it is made sure they get the help they need (Natalie Mcgill pg. 1) They have a harder time receiving orders (Natalie Mcgill pg. 1)

5 Mentally ill inmates need more care and attention then other inmates, due to the fact that they do not have a well developed mind. They have a harder time comprehending things and their mind confuse them between what is right and wrong, between what is reality and what's fake.

6 Rights for in prison women
Women in prison suffer a lot, they have to deal with overcrowding because the amount of women going to prison is increasing They have no right to privacy they change and sleep and use the bathroom in the open and have to adjust to it quickly because unfortunately those rules wont change. If a women in prison is sexually assaulted they have to deal with it unless they have physical proof of being harassed Women who are raped or sexually abused within prison walls are informed that these are “emotional injuries,” and their complaints are often overlooked unless they have physical proof of their pain.(Deborah Golden pg 1)

7 Women in the workplace who are victims of verbal, sexual, or racial harassment are entitled to compensation for emotional distress, but this rule is abolished for prisoners. Individuals who have acquired physical injuries during their time in prison are also denied support. Conditions including facial burns, sexual touching, and sexual assault are insufficient to satisfy the physical injury requirement, according to research on the Prison Litigation Reform Act. .(Deborah Golden pg 1) When these women are done serving their time and are put back out into society they have to deal with the pain and problems they received and went through while being an inmate in prison and have no support
