1 Supporting your child with their Science GCSE

2 Step One – Revise for the correct exam!
Make sure you know which route your child is taking. It will either be triple, double or core. Core students will focus ONLY on B1, C1 and P1 exams. Double students will focus ONLY on B1, B2, C1, C2, p1 and P2 exams. Triple students will focus on B1, C1, P1, B2, C2, P2, B3, C3 and P3 exams.

3 What revision materials are available?
Revision guides. These are available for £3 each. Ask your child to see Mr Deakin. The online science books – kerboodle.com Personal log-ins. Use first initial and surname for username and password e.g. jsmith The institution code is always yp4 Ask me if you need a password reset.

4 What about past papers? Past exam papers – you can’t do too many of these! Available on the AQA website or through the school’s network. Best thing to do is bring a memory stick and copy the whole science folder from the central resources drive. Use the mark schemes to see how well they’ve done. Focus revision on the weaker areas – bring the questions to clinic.

5 A bit more on the Kerboodle book
The online science books – kerboodle.com Each double page spread is roughly one lesson. Summary questions are really useful – reading it over isn’t usually good enough for effective revision.

6 Don’t forget to go to clinic
Clinics (drop-ins) are Monday for chemistry, Tuesday for biology and Friday for physics. Sometimes just 15 or 20 minutes is all it takes. Period 6 for science is a Thursday night. Look out for extra sessions closer to the exam (including early morning).

7 The most important rule!
Always think positive, like a proton.
