Our Commitment to the Environment
Thank you for the opportunity to make today’s presentation. Sharing Anheuser-Busch’s longstanding commitment to the environment is an important part of our social responsibility initiatives. 1

Anheuser-Busch Companies
Brewing 12 US breweries, 15 overseas 48.4% share of US beer sales 42 billion 12-ounce servings sold in 2007! Packaging Aluminum cans and lids, glass bottles and bottle labels Aluminum can recycling Entertainment 9 adventure parks – SeaWorld, Busch Gardens, Discovery Cove Distribution 600 wholesalers nationwide You may be familiar with our products and brewing operations, but you may not know that Anheuser-Busch is a diversified company: The company has 12 US breweries, 14 in China and 1 in the UK. A-B holds a 48.4% share of US beer sales, and Budweiser and Bud Light are the two largest selling beers in the world. In 2007, A-B sold million barrels of beer globally. Each barrel of beer is 31 gallons, so that’s more than 42 billion 12-ounce servings! The company’s packaging operations include aluminum can and lid manufacturing, a glass bottle plant, paper and plastic label production, and as you’ll hear about in a minute, one of the world’s largest recyclers of aluminum beverage cans. A-B also operates 9 adventure parks, including SeaWorld, Busch Gardens and Discovery Cove – serving more than 21 million visitors each year. On the distribution front, Anheuser-Busch has 600 wholesalers, like my company, nationwide that sell their products to bars, grocery stores, restaurants and convenience stores in their local communities. 2

A History of Environmental Stewardship
Improving efficiency, minimizing waste and supporting conservation efforts for more than 100 years Spent grain recycled into cattle feed since 1890s A-B Recycling Corporation formed in 1978, recycles more aluminum cans than packaged World’s largest operator of Bio-Energy Recovery Systems that convert nutrients from the brewing process into renewable fuel --Started using technology in 1985 Leaders in animal rescue and rehabilitation More than 15,000 animals rescued since 1970 While “being green” may be a trend for some companies these days, A-B and its brands have a long history of environmental stewardship. It all started with Adolphus Busch, the company’s founder, in the late 1800s when he began recycling spent grains as cattle feed. Adolphus constantly looked for ways to become more efficient, which translates into lower environmental impact. Anheuser-Busch is the largest user of Bio-Energy Recovery Systems that convert the nutrients in leftover water from the brewing process into a renewable fuel. This system provides up to 15 percent of the fuel needs for the 10 breweries where it is installed. That’s enough renewable fuel to heat more than 25,000 homes. The company’s SeaWorld and Busch Gardens adventure parks are leaders in animal rescue and rehabilitation, rescuing more than 14,000 animals since 1970. 3

Leaders in Waste Reduction and Recycling
Reduced the amount of material used in cans, glass and cardboard packaging Recycle more than 99% of solid waste generated at breweries Recycle more than 5 billion pounds of materials a year Inducted into EPA’s WasteWise Hall of Fame in 2005 for voluntary efforts in reducing waste and recycling (PRESENTER’S NOTE: 99% is just solid waste--not water, energy or other resources. 5 billion refers to solid waste materials, cans, glass, paper, grain, etc.) A-B focuses first on using materials wisely to prevent the creation of waste. For example, the company has reduced the weight of aluminum cans by 36% since the early 70s. A-B’s breweries recycle more than 99% of solid waste generated, more than 5 billions pounds of materials a year. A-B has been recognized for its recycling and waste prevention leadership numerous times, including by the US Environmental Protection Agency’s WasteWise Program as a Hall of Fame performer, recognition the company and its employees are very proud of. 4

Anheuser-Busch Recycling Corporation
Recycles more than 800 million pounds of aluminum or 27 billion cans annually; 5 cans for every 4 we package Implements more than 150 community recycling programs each year, ranging from school programs to the Daytona 500 Supports a vast network of more than 700 suppliers by providing collection equipment and marketing tools to encourage community recycling Celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2008 I mentioned Anheuser-Busch Recycling Corporation a few minutes ago. A-B takes recycling so seriously that the company created a separate division 30 years ago to address this important issue at the community level. ABRC actually helps recycle 25% more cans than A-B’s breweries package each year—we recycle 5 cans for every 4 we package. We work across the US to implement community recycling programs. This includes supporting beverage container recycling programs at events ranging from schools to the Daytona 500 and Sturgis Bike Week. 5

Using Natural Resources Wisely
Conserving water and energy use are top priorities US brewery water use has been cut by nearly 20 percent since 1990 and by more than 7 percent in the last five years, saving 4.7 billion liters of water (enough water for about 30 million showers!) US brewery fuel use has been cut in half since the early 1970s and by more than 15 percent in the last five years Goals set to further reduce water and energy use, greenhouse gas emissions, and to increase the use of renewable fuels A-B continues to focus on the conservation of natural resources. High-quality water is one of the main ingredients in beer, so conservation is a priority for A-B’s breweries and the communities where it operates. Some of A-B’s key strategies include establishing water conservation targets and investing in capital projects to increase efficiency and reuse. Energy also is a key focus area. The company is working on reducing usage wherever possible and on increasing use of renewable fuels. Conserving energy and using renewable fuels lowers greenhouse gas emissions, which is key to A-B’s strategy. 6

Increasing Renewable Energy Use
Bio-Energy Recovery Systems provide about 8% of total fuel demand at breweries through a renewable energy source Enough fuel to heat 25,000 homes annually Evaluating other sources of renewable energy Solar Wind Biomass Biodiesel Landfill gas Speaking about renewable fuels, I mentioned earlier that Anheuser-Busch is the world’s largest operator of Bio-Energy Recovery Systems, which convert leftover water from the brewing process into renewable fuel. This provides our breweries with fuel equal to that needed to heat 25,000 homes for a year. The company also is evaluating a variety of renewable energy technologies, including: Solar Wind Biomass, which involves the use of wood wastes as a fuel source Biodiesel – A-B is actually growing biodiesel crops that can be converted into fuels for use in vehicles. The company uses biodiesel to power a fleet of vehicles at its Fort Collins location and some wholesalers use biodiesel and compressed natural gas in their fleets as well. Landfill gas 7

Supporting Communities Where We Operate
Address key community environmental issues Involve employees and wholesalers Reach consumers through brand partnerships Manage A-B land to benefit wildlife A-B’s facilities and wholesalers are involved in helping improve the environment in communities across the country. These activities include community cleanups and recycling programs, habitat restoration and even managing property to benefit wildlife at nine A-B facilities. 9
