Maya Angelou was born on April 4th 1928, in St. Louis, Missouri, writer and civil rights activist. She is known for her 1969 memoir, I know why the cadged bird sings, which made literary history as the first nonfiction best seller by an African American woman.
Maya Angelou attended Mission High School and she won a scholarship to study dance in San Francisco. She later dropped out of high school in her teen to become a cable car conductor, she later returned to high school and became pregnant her senior year and graduated.
