4. Warrior society that invaded Indus River Valley & initiated Vedic Age
Invaded the Harappa civilization through the Khyper Pass in the Hindu Kush mountains.
Indo-European tribes that migrated one after another to NW India.
Aryan- A Sanskrit word meaning “Noble” or “Host”
Contributed a new social order, language, and a new religion.
Vedic religion- Rig Veda- a religious belief system which involved animal sacrifice and elaborate ceremonies to ensure that all transitions in the natural world proceed smoothly (night/day, or one season to next)

Polytheistic- Indra (God of War), god of fire, god of sun and the God of death.
Rituals honoring these Gods. could last several days with intricate sequences with animal sacrifices.
Brahmin- priests who performed rituals whom were paid well by local rulers.
Followed a series of hymns about daily life.
These hymns were originally for a nomadic culture but transitioned to an agriculture society.

Educated women were instructed to marry educated men.

Women could inherit property, and widows could remarry.
