Sector Surveyed Tourism Hospitality Social Care Practice
Surveyed 50 students with 35 responses from trainees and surveyed 3 mentors/supervisors Students on these programmes must complete placements in the sector Age group: year olds Sector Surveyed

Main difficulties identified
Comportment and attitude of trainees Presentation Willingness to learn Time is an issue i.e. getting qualified staff to supervise trainees especially in the social care area where keeping supervision logs, getting feedback and final assessment is important to the process Main difficulties identified

There were no issues relating to age noted among those surveyed
Context is important here- hospitality/tourism/social care tends to be populated by individuals who have a caring approach to clients and trainees Age Issues

Clarity of roles and responsibilities-clear documentation to support this
Training to be provided for supervisors and mentors Offering CPD credits for participation in training Recommendations

Communication is essential between all parties- the trainee/trainer/mentor
Monitoring is essential to support the trainee- e.g. through the use of an online reflective diary and three-way supervisory meetings All surveyed view traineeships as positive Trainees gain confidence Trainees become more employable Good for companies also-good indicator that they have an open door and are up to standard 50% of those surveyed were offered employment by the companies Overall conclusions
