Figure 2 Correct measurement technique. Measurer stands at eye level in front of the child and slowly lowers the head plate down onto his head. For infant measurements, essentially the same points apply, except that the infant and measuring equipment is supine/horizontal not upright/vertical. In addition, the infant length board has a stationary head plate with a rolling foot plate affixed at a right angle. The foot plate is slowly pushed up against the bottom of the infant's foot until all surfaces are touching and the foot is at a 90° flexion. Illustration by K. Chrisler.
