School Night Planning Marketing your School Night
5/5/2018 School Night Planning Marketing your School Night 7 Points of Contact Boy Talk Flyers & Yard signs Scout to boy invite Parent to parent invite (Utilize your Leader’s Facebook) or even your school’s social media Church newsletter or announcement board PTO newsletter Consider PTO night, Ice Cream Social, meet the teacher night or other event that is already scheduled and will have traffic. DO NOT settle for this in place of a traditional Boy Talk and School Night The idea with the recruitment campaign is not to recruit 100% of the boys to Scouting. Our goal is much more simple… Ensure 100% of the boys/ families get the message about joining!!! It will take multiple approaches for us to achieve that goal. Consider these points.

School Night Planning Quick Tips
5/5/2018 School Night Planning Quick Tips It’s held at the School! It happens within the first Three Weeks of School’s beginning Avoid Mondays and Fridays We MUST ask them to join! Turn in Application to DE or District Membership Chair within 24 hours The SCHOOL offers Familiarity: The boys & parents know where the school is located. Easy to communicate to the boys during the Boy Talk: “join us tomorrow night at 7:00, right here at the school cafeteria!” Centralized location: Most of the time schools are built central to the population they serve which equals easy access to all. Neutral territory: Some may not be comfortable attending churches, especially for the joining night. FIRST THREE WEEKS of School Parents are planning very early in the school year for their boy’s activity. Make sure your pack in early so Scouting is a part of their options What are the BEST days for the BOY TALK? Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday= Boy Talk Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday= School Night Boy Talks should be in same week of School Night, the boys will forget about you over the weekend. This also means no Monday School Nights We MUST ask them to Join They came to sign up so collect their application. Also keep this evening very short. If you’ve ever been to a soccer signup or to a sports signup, its very quick. Hold a parents orientation meeting prior to your first pack meeting to go over all the details, but for your school night keep it short, simple, and give them the pack calendar and make sure they know when the next meeting is.

School Night Planning Leading up to the School Night- PRINCIPAL
5/5/2018 School Night Planning Leading up to the School Night- PRINCIPAL Begin NOW Call your principals NOW to know to set up your Boy Talks Target the first THREE WEEKS of School for Boy Talks and School Night Speak with Principal about several topics Flyer Drops Boy Talks School Night Location School Distribution List and Social Media Ask about meet the teacher/curriculum night Remember DO NOT settle for this in place of a traditional Boy Talk and School Night, but have a presence there if you are able. We spoke a lot about this throughout the spring last year, but I want everybody to think about this as we prepare for the 2016 Fall…we need to have conversations with the principal early. And these are a few points for the conversation with the principal. If you have not yet reached out…take action this week to do so.

School Night Planning The School Night FOUR Station Model
5/5/2018 School Night Planning The School Night FOUR Station Model Structured to be an ‘OPEN HOUSE’ that’s takes a parent min to complete- No hard start Families are coming anticipating 30 min New families visit stations and progressively learn more Keeps it quick, but gets information to them Application capture is enhanced with this model Consider giving them more info prior to your next pack mtg. If short on volunteers, consider combining stations Consider only having one or two people in uniform. More uniforms may create the sense that there isn’t a place for a new volunteer. Might be intimidating for some new families.
