1 Pear Park Elementary School Kindergarten 2016-2017
Mrs. Rozman Mrs. Sackter Principal: Mr. Bunnell Office Staff: Mrs. Franz Mrs. Wallace Mrs. Greenwalt

2 Meet Our Assistants Mrs. LeGrand Mrs. Sackett
These ladies will be in our classrooms, helping with your students, and will help supervise recess times and picking up your children, and bringing them into the building in the mornings.

3 Drop Offs/Pick Ups 8:45-11:45AM/3:45 PM
The drop off location for ALL Kindergarteners is located under the kite, on the brick wall that is on the side of the gym. Students need to line up along the brick wall when the bell rings. Please do not bring your students into the building unless they are having breakfast. If students are late, they must be signed into the office by their parent. The Kindergarten pick up location is right outside the exterior classroom doors. Kindergarten students are ONLY able to be picked up by parents/guardians in emergency situations. Please put other responsible adults who will pick up your student(s) often (other than you) on the list with the office secretaries. If you have any custody issues, we must have documentation for us NOT to release to an undesirable parent. Otherwise, we are legally obligated to release students to their parent/guardian. We release students in a hand-to-hand fashion. They are NOT allowed to cross the street themselves; a parent, responsible adult, or an older sibling MUST come to our door to get them.

4 Parking Parking for our primary students is on the South Western side of the building, please make sure to never use the handicapped spots unless you are handicapped, or have a disability placard. We have many parents with disabilities who actually NEED those spots during the hectic release times, and are often are not able to park there due to inappropriate parking by others. Please DO NOT double park and leave your car! Also, if you park in the “loop,” you must not leave your car unattended for extended time. Again, kindergarten students MUST be picked up by you, an older sibling, or a trusted adult ON THE LIST. We cannot let them walk away alone.

5 Wacky Wednesdays On Wednesdays, all students (regardless of whether they are AM or all day) will come to school at 8:45 and be dismissed at 11:45. Students will attend specials (Music, Library, Computers, and P.E.) on this day.

6 Behavior/Consequences
Depending on the severity of the situation, your student will have consequences for their actions. Students will have a behavior icon (bees, frogs, etc.) that will be moved up/down according to behavior. Good behavior will be recognized at the end of each week. Those students who have turned in homework and been on “green” all week will be able to pick from the “Treasure Box.” For significant behavior issues, parent notification and/or possible principal intervention will occur. Please refer to PPE student handbook for further details.

7 Homework/Recess We are big on homework and have high expectations here at PPE! No homework or incomplete homework = NO recess & NO treasure box. Homework is turned in EVERY Friday, unless there is no school on Friday, making the due date Thursday (on short weeks, there is no homework). Homework is not given over weekends.  Recess is a privilege, not a right. Students MUST finish ALL school work before being able to go out to recess. They are only with us for a limited time, and our goal is to turn them into proficient readers, writers, and mathmaticians by the end of the year! Please follow the homework calendar. It is very detailed and specific and is to be done daily WITH your child! Homework should take no more than 20 minutes. Please sign the homework calendar each day so that we know it is complete.

8 Book It Reading calendars will begin in October and are to be completed each month by you. They will be due back on the first day of the next month. Late calendars will not be awarded unless the student was sick or absent. Each student who completes 20 minutes a day will be awarded with a “book it”.

9 Bear Book (Poem Book) We have a poem book called our Bear Book that will go home on Tuesdays, and be returned on Fridays, along with homework. Please read each poem every week with your student and discuss the theme of the poem. Please point out the letters identified in blue, the “go words” identified in green, and the rhyming words identified in red. Please keep this book in a safe place! We will NOT be able replace your student’s bear book. (They are a wonderful keepsake to remember your child’s kindergarten year.)

10 Snacks After the initial supply of snacks are exhausted, we will be requesting more; please look for the notices to come home. If we do not get more, we will not have any snack to give out. Snack is served once during A.M. recess and once during P.M. recess. (There will be no snack time on Wacky Wednesdays.) Please let us know if your child has any dietary restrictions and/or allergies.

11 Birthdays Birthdays will be acknowledged. You may send in a special treat for your child’s birthday. Please contact your child’s teacher to help with planning for their special day.

12 PPE Conferences PPE conference dates are somewhat different than the district conference dates. Please note this on the calendar on our PPE website. You will receive notices about conferences in your child’s backpack and/or in their hands when coming home.

13 Contacting You The Kindergarten team usually uses colored paper (half or full sheets) to communicate with you about upcoming/important information. Please make sure to take daily work out. Please make sure to clean and check your child’s backpack daily.

14 Contacting Us If an important event is changing (modified pick up time/location/person), or it is a time-sensitive matter, please DO call the office and let us know right away. In an emergency situation, please call the office! If it’s not an emergency… is the best way. Why?? We are likely to be in the middle of teaching It may be after hours…and we don’t live at PPE  Please notify the office immediately of any changes to your child’s pick up schedule. (Do not tell or send notices with your child.)
