Directions: Write out the two definitions and example.
1. independent clause- a group of words with a subject and verb that can stand alone as a sentence.
2. dependent clause- a group of words with a subject and verb. It does not express a complete thought so it can't stand alone as a sentence.
3. Example: As I was running, I slipped on a banana peel.

Directions: Write out the sentences and underline the dependent clause in each. Then answer question #3.
1. When Kara caught sight of her ex-boyfriend Rob, she cringed.
2. When the snow finally stopped we went outside to play.
