5 Question formation We make questions by inverting subject and auxiliary verb We should buy her a present With simple present or past, we add DO/DOES or DID before subject  You watched your favorite movie yesterday 

6 Question formation We often use negative questions to show surprise or when we expect somebody to agree with us Why didn’t you like the movie? Isn’t this a beautiful day? If a verb is followed by a preposition, the preposition comes at the end of the question, not at the beginning YES= What are you talking about? NOT= About what are you talking?

7 Question formation When who/what/ which is the subject of the question, we don’t use did/do  YES: Who wrote this?  NOT: Who did write this?

8 Indirect questions- PRACTICE IN 132 B-
To ask a question in a more polite way. Begin with can/could. Or introducing a questions with do you know? Do you remember? Compare: What time does the next door store opens? (DIRECT) Could you tell me what time the store next door opens? (INDIRECT)  subject + verb = can you tell me where it is? NOT can you tell me where is it? Don’t use did/ do in the second part of Q= do you know where he lives? NOT Do you know where does he live?
