2 Project Design The obesity epidemic is a major health issue affecting the population of the US, with growing prevalence among young children. The rates of obesity have increased dramatically within recent years. One contributing factor to child obesity is the increased consumption of highly processed sugary foods.

3 San Francisco Child Obesity Prevention and Education Program (SCOPE)
Educate and teach children on nutritional benefits of food through interactive activities, communication, and learning Create new attitudes and behavioral changes through presentations and demonstrations Develop and improve nutritional decision making Provide nutritional guidelines and principles

Increase in vegetables and fruits, and decrease in processed snacks Parents/guardian/families need to play an active role in providing healthier snack options Nutrition education in schools
